This is probably more of a Denon question, but here goes. Client has been equipped iwth a T2-C for his dedicated theater room. He has a Denon 3808 running via HDMI to the JVC DLA-HD1 projector. Escient SE-D1 is also attached to one of the inputs ( I think it's VCR1) on the receiver. Here's the problem - when you press "ESCIENT" on the remote the macro always fires off a receiver on, with a 2 second delay followed by an input change, then takes you to the Escient menu. If you leave the menu, then press "ESCIENT" again, it creates a blue screen, receiver tries to set the input again, so it kind of hiccups and finally goes back to the movie you were watching.

Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening? It's more annoying and not non-functional, but I really do not want to test flags based on inputs..

Thanks,
Vincent

Issue with Denon is that it drops the input for a moment wen you send an input command. Power on command does not have an effect once the unit is on. So you have to flag your situations to keep from sending and input command if its the same command...

Well that was as clear as mud...

Make sure buttons on the remote are set to standalone and you are triggering macros on the processor...

Enter DVD macro....
Test Flag DVD
if
----
else
Denon Input DVD
Set Flag DVD

Clear Flag Cable
Clear Flag Tuner
Clear Flag CD
Clear Flag Whatever
Escient power and the rest of the commands that you may need. (blah blah blah)

When you enter any mode (DVD, CD, TUNER, CABLE, WHATEVER) clear flags for the other modes.
Enter
Should take no time at all.

Thanks Springs, you didn't have to do that entire flag session, I knew what was involved, but I am grateful just the same. I really didn't want to do the flag thing for something as stupid as this - I can't believe Denon does this that totally sucks.

I am building a dedicated theater right now in my home and was consisdering this receiver as well, but now I am having doubts about that - what do you think of the Marantz 8001 over Denon 3808?

I bitched about this glitch with Denon to the point where the dealer I was programming for picked up Marantz...

The Marantz lacks some of the Denons features. But you can send it the same input command a hundred times without it dropping. Makes it easier to make... "WORKS EVERY TIME MACROS". Also in Marantz you have discretes for surround modes even in IR that I couldn't find in the Denon Serial.

I spoke to Denon about this as well.

I asked if the new models would "fix this problem". (this was before the 08s came out).

The guy on the phone thought I was crazy to think it was a problem. He said he had never heard of this being a problem.

It pi$$ed me off to be honest. Glad to hear others have spoken to them about this.

We also carry Pioneer Elite. I use Denon exclusively though, cuz I like the RS232 control... plus the new units have Volume Display on screen which is a HUGE feature.

However, some of our guys hate the fact it drops video and audio during input selection, that they are selling Elite instead.

I'm not quick to change horses, so I'll stay with the Denon. I use the flag idea shown above.

As an added measure, I have a macro on the RP6 called CLEAR ALL FLAGS. If the user presses and holds a button (ie Watch TV) for 2 seconds, I trigger the CLEAR ALL macro to reset the flags... and then run the Watch TV macro.

This prevents issues if the receiver gets out of sync with the flags.

As a further note, the unit will also drop AUDIO if you send a surround mode command. ie> If the unit is in Dolby Digital (already) but you send the Dolby Digital command again, it will drop audio for a second.

So I also use flags for surround modes
...couple a thumb tacks and a stick of double sided tape should hold this baby up...

Had you considered the 232 capabilities of the Elites?

Fairly extensive, I'd put their 232 capabilities up against the Denon.

This Denon nonsense is absolutely crazy. To make flags for inputs I can live with. To make flags for DSP's is absolutely ludicrous. Nuts. I like Pioneers, but how do they sound? I don't think I completely care about RS-232 since most of these receivers have IR in which run almost the same. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a great sounding receiver that is easy to control in the range of the Denon 3808 and Marantz 8001? This is for a dedicated theater room that is being built now.

Thanks,
VB

I think I am going to go with the Pioneer VSX94

Fluid... I have a button then when you press and hold it you get...
Return to Known System State.
Button on the Left reads, "I didn't mean it!" This returns you to previous.
Button on the Right reads, "Return to Known system state." Clears all flags. Sets TVs to specific inputs, sets Projector back to Component one, sets Denon to TV, Denon to DD, then sets flags to this state.

Some Marantzs needed a firmware update for HDMI PCM. I have a 7001 on my test bench and Marantz is the go to receiver line at 3 of the dealers I work for.

I like some of the featuers I am seeing on the new Elite models which seem to be quite powerful, HDMI 1.3 support, 4 HDMI in, very good DSP discretes and RS-232 functionality, and decent zone control. I like Marantz as well and the 8001 was my first choice, but I think the VSX 94 has more features...

I used to do work for an Elite dealer but that was a long time ago. Wasn't bad stuff at all.

As for the Marantz stuff... CONTROLLABLE!!! That is why the dealers around here use it.

As for the 1.3 HDMI thing. In this area the friggen cable boxes still won't pass without a switch from Audio Authority. (Nod to Trent)

Our blu-ray at the office locked up on the Good Sheppard DVD. Put in the Panasonic and it plays fine. Just another of the many reasons we can't really just get into Blu-ray or HDDVD and go with it. I mean with HDDVD you get Toshiba which is ususally quirky with tge whole on off thing. Then you get Blu with Sammy who can't get on off or play pause figured out. Panasonic just started doing 24 frames... but then I had Sony. Usually the thing I can count on the at least be controllable... seems the PS3 is a better player...

An installers life for me.

Is it a blue or red state? May not work in all localities.
