I see WIVB continues to be stuck in stereo mode, dropping 3.1 channels out of 5.1 programming.

Outside of the recent audio issues has anybody else been experiencing hiccups with WIVB, even with good signal strength? I'm running a DiVco Fushion HDTV card in a 800 MHz Celeron box and if I leave the Doppler sub channel in my line-up I always lose audio if I surf past this channel.

Anybody else using this card?

I thought that CTV was broadcasting Law and Order
in HD. It's not HD tonight OTA. Who do we talk
to about this?

I would go straight to their site and write a polite letter.
Here is the link: [Link: ctv.ca]

Good luck.

I see that WIVB has fixed their sound problems - and in fact it's better than ever. Now, shows that should be shown in 2.0 are shown in 2.0, instead of a 5.1-flagged signal with just 2.0 content as it's been doing since they first upgraded to 5.1. This means we can finally do surround sound decoding!

For example, tonight CSI was shown in 5.1, followed by Without A Trace in 2.0, all as it should be... fantastic!

I see that City was broadcasting a 5.1 signal during Enterprise tonight. However, it didn't sound *right*... sort of hollow and no rear channel activity.

And for those of you looking for next week's Part 2 in HD, City won't have it. They're showing Spider-Man and have deligated Enterprise to New VR (which of course isn't HD).

Being that City TV is CHUM, and CHUM owns New VR, CP24, Much, has doppler, etc, I am surprised they arent mirroring anything on subchannels...

Update...I just got back my Samsung TS160 HDTV receiver! It was a VERY LONG haul; here is a summary of the series of "unfortunate" events:

- March 9/05: I called Samsung USA to arrange the shipment of my receiver to their service centre in NJ; I told them to use the Military Road UPS store (across from the Prime Outlet Mall) to ship the receiver back after it was serviced; I asked if there was anything special I had to include in the box and was told NO (bad mistake #1...)
- March 12/05: I went to Canada Post to ship the receiver via Expedited Parcel for $20.17 (bad mistake #2...)
- March 21/05: I checked my parcel online and saw that it was "refused" and on its way back to me?!
- March 22-April 1/05: Complained to Samsung USA as to why it was refused; I was told that I had to mark the four corners of the box with a "service authorization number" or else it would be refused; after complaining and negotiating with them further (since I wasn't told in the first place I had to mark up the box), they were willing to pay for the shipping if I brought it over myself to the Military Road UPS store (since they couldn't issue a shipping label that originates from Canada)
- April 12/05: I finally go my receiver back and got charged another $21.58
- April 16/05: I drove over the border to the UPS store to arrange shipping (at least they had a shipping label waiting for me...)
- April 20/05: I checked my parcel online and it was received by the service centre (yeah!)
- April 25/05: I got a call from the UPS store that my receiver had arrived; I drove right after work to pick it up; once home I hooked it up and verified that everything was working and that the software was upgraded (yeah!)

I don't even want to think about how much time/effort/money I had to go through to get the update...I'm just glad it's over!

Thanks, I'll take a look at that, problem is I
dont have a Sat dish. Hopefully xeon450 can try
this out on his.

If it works, I may just buy a sat dish just to
upgrade, then try sell it when Im done !!

Thanks xeon450 for the info, it's helpful.

I noticed CTV did not broadcast Cold Case in HD on Sunday, fortunately WIVB did.

It sucks that City arent broadcasting Enterprise in HD next week, especially seeing as WNLO/UPN is still relegated to a WIVB subchannel right now. Alas, I'll just have to watch the lo-def version on UPN and maybe catch a hi-def version again in a rerun at some point in the future.

Something else Ive noticed: When changing channels on my SIR151, it seems go real slow when I get to the "blank" ch7-2 (former abc newsnow) - almost like my reciever is hangning on to that channel and trying to process something. eventually after pressing the ch up button multiple times it will change up to the next channel, and will be fine after that. (or occassionally it'll power off) - Anyone else notice this, or is it just me ?

I still have difficluty recieving CBC-E - Intermittent for me, it looks like a rotor is going to be on my shopping list in the future - or maybe a second antenna with some kind of channel filtering. not sure yet.

Do you have the latest firmware for your sir-t151?
If not you can order an up grade kit from the Samsung site.
(still waiting for mine)
My sir-t151 goes into a Constance reboot on 2-33 WGRZ-NBC
Have strong signal...But never receive picture
I know this related to the receiver because I’ve tried 2 new receiver (sir-451, radio shack accurian) and they both pick up NBC with no problem.

NBC comes and goes for me... but yesterday it was 100% rock solid for Las Vegas and Medium.

Yes, my 151 has been upgraded, it fixed the copy protection flag problem. Someone on this forum was kind enough to email the firmware and pinouts for making the serial cable to me.

the ch 7-2 thing is just a minor irritation I noticed, not really a problem per se. I'll see if my TS160 exhibits the same problem when (if!) I get it back from samsung (unfortunately firmware on sir-ts160s are not pc upgradeble - buyer beware !! - especially Canadian buyers, where getting service means jumping thru a few more hoops)

NBC is rock solid for me, only stations I have problems with are CBC-English on ch20 (French service comes in just fine) and WBDT which I dont think many people can recieve (at least North of the border) given their low low power level. - Actually, just out of curiousity, I'd be interested to hear if the residents of Buffalo and surrounding areas can reliably recieve that station ? (OTA)

You can program out 7-2 from your favourite section and use favourite button on the remote to scan channels.

Now that's weird... since English is 38kw and French is 2.5kw. Perhaps it's *too* strong?

It is wierd. and annoying !.

I'm thinking there's probably a multipath or other interference, rather than a signal strength problem as my Antenna is pointing directly south toward Buffalo, (which are the channels I'm most interested in) and is 90 degress off from the CN tower. (Im in Ajax) Even so, CityTV, CBC-F, CTV and Toronto1 are rock solid. Unlucky perhaps. -or maybe Im actually lucky that the other Toronto channels come in as well as they do.

Im toying with the idea of one of those "join-tenna" devices and putting a seperate antenna up just for CBC-E, but I'm not sure what other problems that may create.
