CityTV HD receptiion level was below 20 units today, therefore no signal lock. The signal variance was a good 15 units. I checked all the other HD channels and they were as expected, all above 70 units.

Yesturday the CITYTV HD signal strength was up in the low 70's there was hardly any variance.

I know what the CityTV engineer was talking about with multi path reception. The test will be a seperate antenna pointing directly at the CN Tower. I'll try that in a few weeks time.

I found out that my main issues were heat based,
as I had my xbox on top of the HDTV receiver, and
even
though I had great signal, the signal meter would
fluctuate like crazy, and I'd continue to get
glitching on the screen!

Anyway, I let the receiver cool down, and once
it was fired back up, I got everything back in,
clean and clear as day. :-)

I found that having the XBOX on does weaken the signal of the HDTV. Once the XBOX is turned off, the signal comes back strong.
Just an observation!

Hmm...I didn't test that out, but I know that I had the xbox off, when I was getting the glitching...

I'm just going to move the receiver up and away from the xbox... ;-) But I'm pretty sure the unit was heating up. I can get really good signal strength on most stations, about 100% on most stations, except for WGRZ, which I've been able to manage 65%...(for some reason, once in a while, I get 100% with this station, but perhaps it's weather related???)

Thanks for the tip, and welcome to the board!

Anyone else have any problems with CBC tonight ? I kept losing the signal.
Every other channel seems fine, although it looks WGRZ psip has died - it's now showing 33-1 after a few seconds "no signal", once reciever locks on it seems OK though.

WGRZ has been doing a *lot* of messing about with their signal lately.... quite often making it unwatchable. But I didn't check tonight.

I also didn't watch much CBC tonight, but I did check in a half dozen times and it was there when I was looking for it.

No HD on WKBW tonight... which makes me less than hopeful for Lost tomorrow. But fortunantly CTV is suddenly available off air... hopefully they'll have it in HD.

Speaking of lost, why would CTV broadcast Lost sans HD, while NBC broadcasted it in full HD?

Man, CTV is getting pretty bad these days...

Nope, no HD, Nada on CTV... :-(

It's odd, because thru the program guide on rogers, it promotes it as HD, but no dice...

Oh well, I guess they'll figure it out eventually...

FYI

Tomorrow night, Wednesday, April 13th, at 21:00 ET CBC will be running their "Passionate Eye" as native HD with 5.1 audio.

Enjoy

I thought that CTV was broadcasting Law and Order in HD. It's not HD tonight OTA. Who do we talk to about this?

Not sure, but it's quite frustrating! CTV would've been a good replacement for NBC, but I'm not sure anymore...
(I know it's supposed to be in HD as well, as the guide info indicated an HD broadcast when scanning thru the listings on the Rogers HDTV set-top box)

I broke down earlier this week and got a lifetime free rental of a rogers HD-PVR box on a promo that they are offering upon trade-in of a Satellite box. So, I gave them a directv receiver I had in the basement. :-)

Once the 2 month freebie of channels is done, I can go with their basic Digital package for $23.99/month, and get local HDTV stations for free.

I'll still keep my OTA HDTV box for now, but we'll see how it goes. With CTV now broadcasting OTA, I might send the rogers box back.

Oh well, hopefully WGRZ will increase their tower power so that we can consistently get NBC!

Here's CTV's own TV Listings web page for the week. They list which programs they intend to be broadcast in HD.

Problems on WIVB CBS tonight... 5.1 signal only transmitting in 2.0 (ie. no dialogue).
