You can program out 7-2 from your favourite section
and use favourite button on the remote to scan
channels.

Any news on whether they've fixed the encoder problem that affected Harry Potter?

Well, sometimes it's nice to report when nothing wrong happens... pleased to see NBC came in fine tonight (not always a sure thing for me). And Fox was rock solid, too.

Yes, the encoder problem that disrupted "Harry Potter" has been worked out. There should be no problem in future native HD broadcasts.

Speaking of Harry Potter. This weekend May 7th at 19:00, native HD, "Harry Potter, The Chamber of Secrets" is airing again.

Ah, a chance to see how it *should* have looked. :-)

I'm mainly interested in seeing how SW EP1 & EP2 look in HD, since I've never seen them that way.

Just curious:

Are the movies on CBC going to be native HD or upconverted DVDs ? If HD I wonder what they use as a source ? D-VHS perhaps ? or some kind of commercial broadcast media ?

Anyone know ?

Ontario Craig ,

I noticed the same phenomenom on my 451 receiver. Except I see it in Raleigh on the PBS UNC affiliate 4-2. They use 4-2 for their HD broadcasts which are typically from 8pm to 11pm. If you click thru the channels at a time when 4-2 is off air the Samsung will hang for the longest time and I have to so the same as you. I wish I could take it out of the favorites channels but when it is broadcasting it is my favorite channel. I am curious if other manufacturer's receivers do this.

A join-tenna is a device made by channel master (and no doubt there are similar devices made by other companies under different trademarks) (Im considering this for my intermittent reception of cbc-e problem)

What it does is enable you combine two antennas:
an example of what is does is:
Ant#1 filter all channels except (for example) ch20
Ant#2 allow ch20 to pass thru, but block all other channels

Thus allowing you to recieve that one awkward channel (in my case cbc-e) that's in the opposite direction of all your other channels without having to use a rotator.

Theory is sound, but the downside is that I'd be adding another device and potentially introducing more problems, and weakening the signal etc etc. - It's really a case of try it and see, and I will be trying it in the next few weeks, as soon as I get some time, and find a place that'll sell one and ship it over the border. (sadly warren electronics will no longer ship to Canada)

take a look at channelmaster.com - thay have some diagrams on there that perhaps explain it better than I have.

It is a minor annoyance for me, and setting up a favorites list without this channel has worked around it.

Still, I would be curious to know if its a samsung thing (or otherwise). - Unfotunately for you, the favorites trick isnt a viable workaround.

hopefully all these things are teething problems that will go away as dtv matures.

If I could physically enter 4-3 from the remote I would probably be happy but do not have a "-" subchannel option on the Samsung.

Locally in Raleigh only PBS does the HD in/out method. Some of the other networks add sub channels during playoff seasons but they don't leave a dead air channel out there.

I notice it is similar to clicking past a channel that is coming in weak. It is like the Samsung won't give up trying to get the channel in.

Hey There,
I just wanted to say that this is an informative and awesome forum!

I am in Toronto and I did a search but I couldn't find anything.
Now my questions: I seemed to have lost PBS HD (43-1) on both my samsung ts160 and on my hdtv wonder. When I tune into 43-1 I'm getting what I guess is the SD channel. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I just noticed that I also get 7-3 (38-3) wkbw. Is this a new sub channel?
Thanks for your time,
rbq

I just checked, PBS is coming in fine (43-1 HD, 43-2 SD & 43-3 "Think Bright"). Also, I only have ABC 38-1 as normal.

Welcome, Maddawg...by any chance, you post on tor.forsale.misc often? ;-)

As for an antenna, you can go with either the Terk TV-32/winegard PR-4400 (All of the other Terk antennas bite, esp. the ones that attach to existing dish/directv dishes)

Some others like the Channel master CM4225/CM4228 are decent.

I'm currently using an antennas direct DB4 with preamp, and it's working out well for me. I'm in brampton, so I suspect your closer to buffalo than me being closer to the lake...

Good luck!
