Forgot to say: thank you Daniel for providing this forum where not only can users help each other, but manufacturers can interact with users as well. We the users, and Philips both owe you a debt of gratitude!

I received confirmation that Philips in Belgium received my Pronto Units. Boy, that was fast. Anyway, I will let everyone know if and when I get a communication from them and or when I receive the 2 new Pronto's. I am also hoping of course that they can determine what the problem is with these touych screens.

Got my new replacement today and loaded my most recent PCF on it. So far so good, but I will keep the thread informed of how it holds up.

Downloads seem much faster than on my previous one. Also, it used to make me activate the touchscreen and then wait for the timeout before it started downloading. This one starts right away. Interesting.

I hope Pronto Team has some success in isolating the problem, and that everyone else on the forum having this problem are assisted as well.

Hi,
I got the same problem as most of you, touch screen died suddenly (RU 950). As Pronto is crucial in my HT I even bought a new one (RU950). After that I could start to analyse the problem in the old one with a good concience!
And alas, I found the fix, which will cure both dead screen but also the failing calibration (actually the same basic cause). BTW If the Pronto Team doesnt really know the problem - I am disappointed.
The nice thing about the fix is that it does not cost anything, but you have to be able to open the whole plastic cover system properly.

Disclaimer: I do not take any responsibility of this fix - you try it at your own risk!

First you have to open the plastic cover system (there are 5 torx screws holding the upper part, 4 visible and one inside). After that you may be able to take off the green rim round the touch screen. When that is done, you will see a flexible connector (carbon to copper) at the upper right corner of the touch screen. And that is the cause of the problem! There are four connection points (o o o o) which should make contact with the flexible copper strips beneath them - but for some reason they lose their connectivity after some time (oxidation?). So the simple fix is to rub the connection points with a sharp object (model knife, opposite end of a needle). Be careful not to puncture the plastic (or break the glass!) but still use enough power to ensure a good contact...
If only one connection point is faulty you will get calibration error, if more, the touch screen does not work at all.
If Daniel allows, I could send some pictures to make it more clear to u all.

Hope this helps, it surely helped me - :-)

regards PeraV

Uh oh. Same problem as all of you. Last night--no touchscreen. Just hard buttons.

Great forum guys! I hope I can get some relief!

Thanks,

Nick

I got a new one
Thanks Philips in Belgium
Her is som email from Philips
"Dear,

We are contacting you either because of an e-mail you sent to us or a post you made on Remotecentral.com in regards to your touch screen on your Philips Pronto NG TSU3000 / RU950 not working.

We have been working since mid June to try to find the cause of the non-responsive touch screen that some people are experiencing

To try to find the problem we first focused on feedback from people experiencing this issue based on purchase date and the firmware was being used when the problem occurred. This showed us that the units where very far apart from manufacturing date and the issue has arisen with users running several different firmware versions.

We then decided to try to get several units back to the development group here in Leuven, Belgium to try to put them on the test bench and see if we can pinpoint the cause.

Unfortunately getting the several units back has not yet resulted in us being able to identify the issue and we would like exchange your unit to get it back for analysis.

If possible please ship back your Pronto NG without batteries to the following address:

Philips BL Home Control "

And the last letter

"Dear Mr. Olof B,

Hereby I would like to inform you that your SBC RU950 has arrived at our office for further investigation.
A new device is shipped with UPS and can be monitored at http://www.ups.se with the following tracking number: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Kind regards,
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Pronto Software Engineer
Philips Home Control"

Now everything is working

Olov

Belly up, dead touchscreen...I have had this happen to THREE so far, the first one was replaced (Yes, I paid the 156.12 or whatever it came to, the customer was willing to pay for the replacement, I did not mark it up on him...), the second was "retired", but now I have a third...
Serial # 73636876
Newest Firmware/Software

What I found interesting was that Philips did not want the old one back on the replaced one, they just shipped me a new one. That one got opened up to look for anything obvious. I need to replace this latest one, but I am unwilling to pay another 150 bucks.

This kinda scares me, as I have several more 3000s installed in clients homes, and I fear the rest will start flaking out.

If anyone from Philips wants two more dead 3000s, and wants to replace them, feel free, as I can't run around charging 150 everytime one dies, and my customers DO talk to each other (that's how they found me in the first place, gotta love word of mouth...), some are getting turned off of ANYTHING Philips.

I love the Pronto, I really do. But I fear the 3000 now. If anyone has any input on how the replacements are working out, please post. It's just too hard to push for 7000s all the time, the 3000 is at a price point I can sell to even the cheaper customers, but I need to know this will not keep happening...

Hi everyone. I found you because of this problem, it started last wednesday night. Like everyone else, nothing unusual led up to the problem the screen just stopped responding. So I tried updating the firmware for the first time and now I have a message box that says tap top left corner. My question is do I need a small hammer to get it to recognize the tap. Seriously though my father-in-law owns a high end Audio/video store where I purchased the remote approximately one year ago. I am going to see if they can get a response from Philips and will report back.

Hello all. I had the same problem. My touch screen died suddenly. I took my unit to the local Philips repair service, and they just cleaned the touch screen connectors (cost me 21 euros). Now it is working just like before. I suppose the solution was the same as PeraV wrote.

Thank you Remote Central. Great things here...

PeraV :thanks for heads up.

Hello ... IT IS THE FIX!!

Philips: I wouldn't want to admitt it either...mechanical connection points come back to haunt

Good Luck....mine works now and I fixed it...pretty cool

MY 3000 worked great on battery pack, firmware everything over last year, then in june...Touchscreen went wiggy...firmed up...no calibrate etc..

Now if I could just remember where all of these little pieces go...

Well, an update, after having the batteries out for sometime it started working as I posted earlier. However, just as Jedi Mike predicted, after about a week, the Pronto touchscreen went dead again (by dead I mean no response from a tap, but it lit up properly and everything). So, I'm sending mine back to Philips in Beligium as well, since they did e-mail me earlier requesting some units to investigate.

I'm not really convinced on PeraV's solution for all these problems. I did take mine apart and pulled out the connector and cleaned it well. That did not make a difference. Then just leaving it alone for a couple weeks, and everything works fine?? It definately seems like something else, rather than a dirty connector, at least for mine.

However, PeraV's solution was for a RU950, while mine was a TSU3000, which I know are basically the same, but maybe experiencing slightly different problems. It is also possible that there are multiple problems that can cause this touchscreen issue.

Well, in any case, I hope with the number of units that are being sent back to the Belgium ProntoTeam, a solution will be found.

My TSU3000 pooped out on me a couple of days ago, and after recharging the battery pack (brand new) completely, doing a button reset, and doing a battery-pull reset...but none of them seemed to work. Yesterday, it randomly started working again, but only for a few minutes.

It seems like the touchscreen is registering my touches about 2 inches to the left. e.g.-if I press on the far left side of the screen, soft buttons towards the right side of the screen (like the device navigation right arrow at the top) activate.

How can I see about sending my Pronto in to get checked out, too? Not sure what firmware I have, and I can't access the information screen since the appropriate soft key is on the left side of the page :-(

Edit: It's 3.1.15. I just upgraded to 3.6.7, and now I'm getting the "calibration failed" message when I tap the top right corner during calibration.

Received my 2 New Pronto Screens from Philips in Belgium. Haven't downloaded programs yet. I will assume that they will work. Thanks Philips!
