Still got the 3000 (RU950).

I have a Marantz RC5400 with a broken screen and would be interested in your RU950 as spares!

Would you consider? I live in Devon, UK.

My screen is wacko. The calibration is way off. Enough that I can't enter the settings to recalibrate. I've tried resetting, etc. I just updated the firmware (which worked), but after reading these threads, I am worried that it will crap out all together.

Well it looks like my 3000 just joined the ranks of the lost touch screen. So I guess its off the the store for a T6 bit. What ever happened to Customer Service? I had one of the worst customer experiences with pronto support.

No more Philips stuff for me either. Hey Philips here's one more straw on your way to bankruptcy.

Today my screen suddenly didn't react any more. I had some short problems with the reaction the last days after a few moments the screen was OK again.

Now, it doesn't respond to clicks anymore.
I tried the need method described in this thread, but it wouldn't work.

But, if I press in the cable in the upper right edge the screen seems to respond anyway.

What else could I do? Is my screen totally dead?
I already downgraded and reupgraded the firmware (3.9.12=>3.6.7=>3.9.12 (3.6.7 was the one that was installed when I bought it)
I bought the Pronto second hand only 3 weeks ago from eBay... I already emailed the guy I bought it from. He was very helpful with my battery pack problem, but I have little hope he can help me...

That's annoying, I just want a working Pronto.......

Get an ipaq 1940 series touchscreen in e-bay, and change the touchscreen. If you have the skills to do that, it will fix the remote.

Is there any need for soldering to be done when replacing the screen?
I'm not new to soldering but I have not much experience with soldering very littler things.

I guess I'm looking for such a replace touchscreen if the guy I bought it from will not answer.

Yes soldering is needed. And yes it's very delicated. It's also hard to take the old touchscreen out. And finally the ipaq 1940 series touchscreen is smaller, you have to position it right and you will end with bars on top and botton of the screen, but it will work nice. A lot more sensible then the OEM touchscreen.

Ok just finished the repair and all is good again. The pin trick worked. I also managed to unstick one of the bottom keys with a bit of hot water (after removing the button of course) And I used the pin to scrape the contact on my volume down side button that was intermittent and was able to get it back in shape. So I figure I'm good for another year. But I'm still thumbs down on Philips customer service. My experiances with them have been horrible.

Well lets see it. I tried the contact thing in 5 remotes, the one that last long worked for 2 more months only. Good luck.

If it craps out again I'll take the time to document the surgery with pics. :-)

Well, after looking at the prices for an IPAQ 1940 replacement display... Well, I think I just hope I can somehow get some money for the 3000 back (I own it for 3 weeks or so, so I try to get the money back from the ebay guy, or I sell it as broken) and buy a 3500 or 7000.

Can anyone confirm that the "Display dead" failure is not present in the 3500 as on the 3000? Or are there the same problems?

Only issue you will avoid in the 3500 is the backlight problem (in the 3000 backlight goes dim after some years). The 3500s use now LED backlight. But the LCD and the touchscreen are the same of the 3000. So problably it will in the future have the same problem (not yet reported since the model has no more then 2 years).

Do yourself a favor go for the 7000.

How much do you want for the 3000? Do you have a docking for it? How is the backlight?

I don't know how much this 3000 unit is worth with the "frozen touchscreen". Yes, I do have the docking but not the original power supply, as I live in germany. I have a universal power supply. I don't know how bright the backlight of a new unit is, but mine seems to be OK, no problems to read except when the sun shines directly on the LCD.

I guess I will look for a "cheap" 7000/980 then!
