Thanks, I'll check and see if there's any developments I've missed, but to the best of my knowledge, the Supreme Court has only allowed vertical price controls in cases where the manufacturers have been able to prove that either a price ceiling or floor was necessary to protect the consumer.

I don't know if this is HTM's policy, but here's a sample of what I'm talking about. It's Lenox's (the china people) unilateral price policy for their dealers:

"This policy is a unilateral statement of the terms upon which Lenox will do business. Lenox does not seek and will not accept dealer agreement to this policy. Each dealer is free to establish prices at whatever levels it chooses. However, Lenox reserves the right to terminate either the product line or lines involved or the entire account if a dealer chooses not to comply with this policy.

"Lenox believes that a fair price to the consumer and a reasonable margin for Lenox dealers is a necessary cornerstone of continued success for Lenox and its authorized dealers. We are convinced this policy is necessary to protect our fine name and ensure mutual success in the future." That is the part of their policy that would have to be proven if challenged. So the question here would be "is $500 a fair price to the consumer and a reasonable margin for dealers on a product that wholesales for slightly more than $200?" In any event, since the initial ruling in 1976 that sought to abolish all vertical price fixing, there have been numerous challenges, and some have been successful and others have not. But the determining standard is whether or not the practice can be shown to benefit or harm the consumer.

Whether or not a company engaging in a unilateral price policy (price fixing) is illegal, it is unethical, and in my humble opinion -- UnAmerican! As a result, I refuse to purchase the products of such a company (hence I own no Lenox china) unless I can find it for significantly less than their jacked up price. For example, I have not upgraded to Microsoft Windows XP and have no plans to do so until I find it at the right price. And if that means the copy I find is a pirated copy, I will shed no tears, for I do not feel bound to be ethical towards an unethical company!

I always enjoy reading discussions about the kinds of policies you guys are talking about.

Legal/illegal, morally right or wrong, these kinds of policies affect us a ton in the audio/video world. Thiel speakers (whose products I like) and Bose (whose products I don't care for) are 2 that come to mind as I type this.

Thiel is a small company. Bose is an absolute industry giant. It is interesting to consider that for both to use restrictive pricing policies...

Just a thought. This price increase comes at a time that many shipments from Asia have been seriously delayed. Is it possible that HTM is trying to protect existing stock for custom installers and/or charge a higher price due to limited stock?. I'm no economist, but this price increase is certain to do only one thing - reduce sales IMHO.

Has anyone else called this morning and tried to order an MX-700 at the $231 price? Just wondering if Worthington is still selling them at that price (or selling them at all).

I just called to check on my order, and it's still backordered (I just ordered mine Friday).

Sounds like they are still taking orders at the $231 price (add $6 for a cable). Let's hope they get the shipment they are expecting!

Looks like Worthington has started shipping. I just received notification that my package had shipped.

I called this morning and asked them to add a cable, but they said they are short on these. I'll follow the DIY instructions and make my own.

David,

Just ordered one this morning from Worthington and received the $231 price. She said they should be in any day.

Kit_C & Trun, if we actually receive these at this price -- YOU BOTH THE MAN!

This will be my second one -- one for my living room and one for the bedroom. It has passed the wife approval test! Excellent remote.

So I guess I'll ask the question that more than 1 person can be thinking:

What are all the other "retailers/distributors" like AVSmart and Bluedo thinking about this $231 price. Shouldn't they have similar deals?
