How many customizable "buttons" can we put on the LCD screen? It looks like it's six buttons in all the pictures posted. The 880 can put 8 buttons on it's LCD. Can we cram that many on the One?

Does anyone know if the One has learning capability?

As a longtime Pronto user, I'm considering a Harmony because I switched to Mac and can no longer program my Pronto. So, does the Harmony have the discrete codes etc... we had to find online here and program into the Pronto? Anyone made the swithc have thoughts?

(p.s. - I know there are ways to run Windows on a Mac, and thus use ProntoEdit software ... but I'm really trying to avoid that.)

Sorry did not know that I will get no notification for replies to this thread... how do I do that? its not in the profile settings...
Some more comments:
- LCD is bright enough in most conditions I had it in. It does look weired at times and simply does not look as good as the 1000. Almost looks like the image is slightly different betwen your left/right eyes hence some weired effect.. I don't want to say 3D-ish but....
- I have not seen any interface to upload custom buttons for commands nor activities yet (still hoping they will show up with finally option to create custom themes) but they do display the icon/image in the interface now besides the slection interface just there is no upload link
- Custom buttons definetely only have 6 per page and for activities there are only 3 but I would not want to see more (the 880 had buttons besides the LCD?) With this being a small touchscreen I find myself lacking the confidence of a 100% hit with my chubby fingers at times.
- the touchscreen is very sensitive as it is of the conductive type so I find myself pressing it in error at times but mostly only the bottom buttons for commands, favorite and device so no harm done
- I had the 880 before and you can't feel your way around it at all but this one I think will do well, especially since they have attempted to design a few of them with different depth and shape. but I am not used to it yet so we will see
- I have not had my 670 I think for a long time so I can't remember if I would prefer the rubbery feel but the buttons on this are easy to press but not too easy to be accidentally triggered (except for the touch screen). I can't remember if there was an tactile feedback but if there was it was very light and did not need any foce to cause any carpal tunnel syndrom
- overall it is very light but still feels solid but maybe because it's new and shiny and the touchscreen being so sensitive I find myself being very careful about handeling this unit so it is not quite as comfortable as it could be but maybe that will change ones I dropped it a few times. Certainly the remote and the buttons don't creak like the 520/570? I think I had for a real short time
- Battery life is definetely improved as it is still running since Sunday from it's first charge
- I did not go through the manual or the interface in detail but I did see some form of a transmitter/receiver looking thing on the lower end when I remove my battery cover and I think I do recall seeing learn label somewhere
- funny thing, like the remote is taunting me but when programming the PS3 it knows that it will not work with it as PS3 is BT but it still displays a bunch of buttons in the LCD

In all honesty ever since I upgraded from my 670 I have not been able to be as "happy" with the usibility and feel of the remote no matter what fanciness LGT has added but I truly believe this is as of yet the closest thing to it. If I could get this design and feel, skip the touchscreen somehow and gain the confidence that it is rocksolid as the old designs it would certainly surpass the 670. In it's current form I would say it comes close enough and is a needed replacement for anything newer than the 670 ;)

Update:

- I can feel and hear the clicking now that I am paying close attention to it and it's not that bad :)
- the tilt sensor to activate the remote from standby is not as responsive as previous models
- There is a white light on the charger top and you can set it to two different levels of bright or turn it off all together.. pretty cool
- oh the soft buttons around the LCD lights up in orange when you switch to Device mode :)
- Battery indicator shows almost 2/3 capacity after 4 days still

| Personally, I can't stand the button layout or feel on
the 880. When I say feel, I'm not just talking about
the balance. I'm talking about the buttons -- the size,
the spacing, the pressure and feedback when pressed, the
ability to locate them by feel without looking down, etc.

To me, ergonomics is the most important 'feature' of a
remote. Improved ergonomics is the primary reason why
I buy new remotes.

My ScientificAtlanta HDPVR is the ony device remote that had the colored buttons. If you can give me a specific device model I can give it a try tonight

Does anyone know if the new One will support a soft "Media" button so that I can access individual discs in my CD Jukebox? This feature was dropped on the 720.

Scratch that question. Just reread your post...

[Geil, Thanks for the great pix! For the custom buttons (shown A, B, and C in your software screen), are those user-editable or provided by the Harmony software?]

It looks awesome but I cannot justify purchasing anything
but an RF remote at this point, having used one for a
year. The difference in missed commands is just ridiculous,
i.e. with the RF 890 I've never had one missed command.
Not one.

Agreed. I'm using an 890 now and while I really don't like the button layout/feel, there's no going back to standard IR remotes.

I REALLY hope they come out with an RF version, as well. I'd be all over it.

I was under the impression that the benefit of having 890 is to have control over both IR and RF receving devices. But having RF don't mean that suddenly my IR devices (pretty much the only type used for HT devices or was that the other way around?) will be able to receive RF signals??
I can pretty much point any of my remotes in all sort of directions as long as I do not actually block the signal

One of DirecTV's HDDVR is the HR20-700 and it has the 4 colored buttons.

My Pvr is a Beyonwiz DP-S1. But I was thinking that the 4 coloured buttons are just generic colours from Harmony that can be programmed on the lcd display so hard buttons are not required.

It has a RF receiver which then sends out the appropriate IR commands over the appropriate blasters. It still sends IR commands from the remote (if needed). It does not control other RF devices unless they support Z-wave. It's illegal for one manufacturer to use the same RF frequency as another mfr (other than for Z-wave) since that would cause untold problems with interference between devices.

I am still confused :P
My concept of RF and IR maybe off (can't find my old physics book) but the IR receivers inside all of the HT devices could not possibly accept RF signals? If that assumption is correct than no matter if you use a 880, 890, 1000 or the "One" they all still would have to transmit in IR to be understood by the devices. I can only imagine that "better" reception is only a result of a stronger transmitter.

Update:

Ok after some clarification from my buddy, IR and RF definetely not the same thing and the RF part (besides direct use with Z-Wave) really is only used to extend the commands through walls in conjunction with the included RF extender which, receiving the RF signal, will then transmit the approprite IR signals to the HT devices in front of it still requiring line of sight .. much like what akirby was saying
So unless chuck_IV and lebaige installed the RF extender into the same room they are really not using the RF part of the remote at all just that the signal is stronger or the delays are set properly

Count me in as another US user who is desperate for colored hard buttons on the Harmonys! In fact, I bought their Xbox 360 remote just for the colored buttons, not because I have an Xbox. And the reason I'm stuck with Harmonys instead of some other brands is the phonepad-sytle pairings of letters with each of the number keys. This is essential for anyone who owns a Squeezebox.

My new Scientific Atlanta 8300HD STB has 4 colored buttons I use exhaustively; my Panny plasma TV has 4 colored buttons, my brother-in-law's Dish Network remote has 4 colored buttons, and his Sammy LCD TV has 4 colored buttons. And these are all just plain colored buttons with no labeled function. As devices become more complex and have more settings, colored buttons will become more common because key overloading can't be avoided.
