It appears from what I read that you can only do three switched independently.
Who says you can't put 61" plasmas up on cantilever mounts using toggle bolts? <---Thanks Ernie ;)

From article:

Quote
Truck rolls? Don't dealers live by truck rolls?

"Dealers are wrestling with the issue of dropping prices and lowering margins," Klein says. "They have to adapt. In many cases they are taking the custom out of "custom" and mass customizing. In others, they're diversifying."

As I said before, the rest of you can continue to support these guys. I am officially done.

I understand growing, changing, and adapting with the industry. It is one of my biggest motto's to stay alive and it continues to work very well for us.

However, I will grow with a company that gives a crap about my business.

Thanks RTI!

Let's not turn this into an RTI vs URC thing. I'm almost exclusively an RTI dealer. I still do the occasional URC. I was with Tweeter and Best Buy before and did a ton of URC but I now would much rather sell and use RTI. With that being said RTI will not have a control setup like this any time soon. Lutron is a big name and we all know that it's quality. I wish that RTI would come up with a solution like this with Lutron, even if it was with a "converter" box. But until then I won't rain on the URC parade, that is until I test one and find that it's a pain in the @r$e. haha

Would that be a Harley or a Honda moto?

I am not trying to start an argument, but out of curiosity...

In my opinion, a manufacturer that develops new solutions for our industry and our customers shows a care for the devolopment of my business.

Hmmm....
Ever hear of the Lutron IR remote for Spacer or Maestro IR? How about RA-IR or RA-RS232 for the RadioRa systems?
Hell, with the RA-RS232 or a HomeWorks processor, you'll get 2-way if RTI ever gets thier XP8 right.

This is awesome IMO. Add lighting control to any room for under a grand? Wireless switches/dimmers/lamp modules? Am i dreaming this?

This is URC and Lutron dumping 50K into my pocket over the next year with little to no effort on my part.

Did you even remotely add anything to this thread with that mindless drivel? If that was an attempt on your part to appear smart you missed it. If you don't realize the difference between what URC and Lutron just did then you should stick to Harmony remotes. Using IR with the Spacer or Maestro is a joke compared to what URC is doing with this. RadioRA is great, if your client can spend the money on it. It's a great option to just spend $300 for theater lighting and be able to do it in a retro. I've put in plenty of RadioRa systems with RTI. And I've done probably 100 times as many Maestro's. Most of my lighting control uses individual switches with IR porting on RP6's.

You are worried about the XP8 for two way? Have you heard of zigbee? You could get 2-way on a Zigbee T3V and the XP8 could still not have it, which is more in line with what URC just announced.

Next time you want to jump in with a smartass comment ask yourself if it's worth looking like a fool.

I agree. The problem is, this is not a new solution. It is a proprietary addition to an nonexclusive line up with limited features used to accomplish something we can already do. And they are nice enough to let us make less money.

For guys that don't sell lighting yet it is a good entry into the field. F

For those that do, its another ebay/firedog/geek squad obstacle to overcome when trying to sell the right solution.

Both Arguments

The client wants the URC-Lutron (inexpensive option) so we lost money on the lighting control.

Or...

The client agreed to lighting control because we were able to provide it within his budget.

From what i read in the article all this partnership will be good for is 1 room. It will be the DIY guys dream come true for sure but it will also be a cool feature for us to offer customers who are only doing 1 room. We make money on the lighting products, labor & installation. 1 more cool thing for the clients friends (potential client) to see when they come over.

Plasma prices came way down, we sell RTI for projects we would have sold Crestron for a few years ago and now we may use URC-Lutron lighting for projects that might have gotten Radio RA etc. We continue to make money anyway. 5 Years ago the company i worked for submitted bids and never got paid for the design. Now we get paid for the design upfront. 5 Years ago we bought GUI's for touchscreens from other people now we make our own. I dont buy the "were getting screwed" rhetoric. Everyone has to learn to adapt in this industry, bass fishing and anything else in life.

I do a lot of retro's.

This could be perfect for those that wanted lighting control in the theater but chose not to because of the cost of fishing wires to the existing switch locations.

It obviously isn't a whole house solution so quit comparing it to one.
Every day is a good day.......some are just better than others!

Proud to say that my property is protected by a high speed wireless device!

Its called Radio RA

So what do you do when the clients falls in love with lighting control and wants to extend it to the rest of his house?

Answer:

Remove URC dimmers and throw in trash, replace with appropriate dimmers, add RA IR/232 adapter, reprogram scenes, and reprogram controllers.

I usually respect your opinion.

Answer my question above about expansion if my comments are "silly".
