No Zoom or Last Stop Review: I was anticipating that this remote would be the end all to my remote control problems. There is no silver bullet here. I guess the remote would work well with Sony devices; however, the only Sony device I own is the remote -- Mitsu TV, Toshiba DVD, JVC A/V amp. The size of the controller is much too large to fit comfortably in your hand. The backlit does not stay on long enough, and when watching a movie in the dark it is very difficult to operate. Sam's has it for 129.95. In the dark, the non-luminated hard buttons are useless. You have to turn on a light to make your selection. For some reason I tend to double hit the touch screen - maybe I'm just a clutz. Overall, it's a good buy and does all it is supposed to do extremly well. Had it running with Hitachi 60", Sony 555ES, Toshiba DVD, Mit VCR, Sony A5 Sat, in minutes. Got the shirt also - very nice. Quality: Features: Value:

The device can even learn functions found in the original remote by mimicing buttons or by users setting new buttons. Also, for the techy person, you can't beat the fact that it feels like a device found in a Star Trek show! Weaknesses: There is a learning curve involved and the manual isn't the most clearest. Also, you have to use pre-determined buttons on the remote if you need to program-in functions found on another remote. ie: Sound boost ---> PIP button. Review: I feel this remote offers more in the area of versatility than most universal remotes. I've used a lot of UR before, but the Sony Remote is by far the best. Review: Bought on eBay for $115 New in box. Programmed 6 separate units in about an hour. Oddly enough it was the Sony equipment that drove me nuts. The on off macros worked great with everything BUT Sony - go figure! Something about on/off being separate commands not just a power button on off like a my TV, VCR, and DVD. Strengths: Easy learning capability Strong backlight Good Range Weaknesses: Display hard to read w/o backlight Backlight goes off after a set time Backlight button must be pushed to turn on light "Change" button disables channel buttons Could use a few more hardwired buttons Review: Overall, this is a great remote. It has a decent library, but teaching it commands is a snap. The 3 macro buttons are a very convenient way to power up/down everything at once. The main thing potential buyers will have to think about is how they deal with the idea of looking at a screen instead of feeling for a button. That is a very important compromise for some people and has to be considered before plunking down $100+ for this otherwise very quality remote. On to the issues: My main beef is with the backlight system. Although I've been eating my carrots, it is very difficult to glance down and read the commands w/o turning on the backlight. And that's a problem...you have to physcially turn on the light to use it, and worse, it automatically shuts off after a set time. It doesn't care if you're still setting a program on your VCR and need the light...after the time is up, it shuts off the light. I'm sure that it would not have been hard for Sony to program these features into it, but I guess it was just overlooked, and nobody caught it. Another problem is with the "change" feature. I will state that that feature is COMPLETELY WORTHLESS. The logic is that you can reduce some of the clutter on the screen, which is good. However, it does so at the expense of the hardwired channel buttons, which is BAD. Being that they can control not only the channel, but programmed to fastfwd, etc, this is a horrible oversight. Sony would do best to either leave that option off or fix the problem with the channel. Which brings me to my last gripe...there aren't quite enough hard wired buttons. These is plenty of space on the remote, being as big as it is, but a couple more buttons would certainly help its functionality. They would be immmensely useful in doing jobs that you ALWAYS have to mess with without the tedious job of staring at the screen to do it. I know that my review has sounded mostly negative, but that's because it does the things it's supposed to so well, there's no point in mentioning that. I've loved my remote, and it has certainly made my life easier (and more fun). But you can't have a critical review without mentioning the shortcomings. Quality: Features: Value:

Macros are useful, but buttons should be backlit. Weaknesses: HUGE size, backlight doesn't light with each use, buttons should have lighted indicators,or at least glow, annoying beep with each click. Inability to re-label items as you wish. Review: Overall, a very impressive remote that I would recommend for an enthusiast that isn't interested in spending $3-400 on a remote. I hope that the 2200 makes a few improvements based on what I have observed: 1. size needs to be reduced significantly 2. backlight should be powered on with each click 3. Would be nice to be able to re-label buttons, but I understand they are easier to see without dot-matrix 4. buttons should have backlit indicators...for instance a + button should have a lighted or glowing + on it. 5. volume and channel should be swapped I have successfully programmed everything that I ever wanted into this remote with room for about 6 more components. I just need a notebook to remember that "wide" means picture mode for my Wega, and +10 means menu, etc... Quality: Features: Value:
