i need to program a drop down menu on a button. so that when i press this button a menu drops down with 6 choices and i can select one of those choices and it will then remove the drop down menu and place the choice that i made into the box. this application is for a matrix switcher 8x16. any ideas?

I would overlay additional pages that appear to have the dropdown menu and look like the original; similar to when you program keypad input.

I don't use scrolling lists, but that could be another option.

Scrolling list will be the fastest and easiest way to do this in my opinion.

I would set it up as a page flip that looks like a drop down menu.

Put a macro on each button that sends the remote back to "PR" Previous Page after the button is pressed.

I starting programming a drop down menu for sources and zones on a K4 and the pages got ridiculous. I had two additional pages for every one page. So if I was in the DVD menu page and I hit sources it would take me to page X. If I hit zones it would take me to page Y. X and Y had the drop down menus on them. But if I changed the layout on any of these pages I would have to go back and move the drop down icons. It sucked and I gave up. You can do it but it's going to take a lot of pages and work.

Just create a template page with the 6 drop downs with the proper button locations and macros. Then after all the pages are created just copy and paste the 6 buttons on to the appropriate pages. I would setup all the macros and page flips within the macro so you don't have to keep changing them based on what page it's currently on (I'm figuring you are using an XP8 and an in-wall keypad otherwise have fun).

This emulator shows a T3 with what I called PopUp menus. It was done before I ever did a 2-way system, so there were a lot of pages to simulate the popups. Some menus appear as "popups", some were set on different pages.

To simplify page creation I used screen captures of the main pages as backgrounds for the popup overlays. Some backgrounds would be set behind a "dimmer" to highlight the popup buttons (ie: mode buttons in music library).

I was pleased with the final outcome, and the client said it was the easiest remote he ever used. That may have been true without all the fancy graphics, though.

You could use page flips for the drop down menu, that shouldn't take that long to create.

I would do a single home page with links to the individual displays, then on each displays corresponding page, have a drop down with the sources, that way each page would track what that display is doing.

The feedback is what becomes painful to create, if it all needs to be on a single page.

Having these buttons state what source each display is on is tricky because you would have to put each display's current source on a separate page.

I created something like this for a customer who had a 4x4 switcher, and he wanted to know on a single page what each display was showing. It was painful to create a variable home page because a separate page had to be created for each possible situation. It wound up being hundreds of pages when creating a separate page for each display would have only been 4 possible pages per display.

I hope you are willing to put the status of each display on a separate page, save yourself a ton of time and headaches.

Why not do a pop up with flags?
I just did one for zone vol control
available from any page on the remote.

Make the pop up visible via flags only.
Male the button that activates the pop up
set the flag and make a small x on the pop up
that clears the flag.

I actually used the home button to trigger the pop up
( if you hold it down for 1 seconds it sets the flag that then
brings up the pop up ).
