Hi, I am new on the forum.
None of the codes for DVD, satellite, or VCR work, so I must be missing something. Do I have to be in Command Mode AV2 to program the remote? If so, how do I get the receiver itself to respond to power-on button in AV1? Power On is factory programmed to the default AV2.
I just tried to program a RM-LG112 with the learning function and now see that according to my manual, the learning function only all applies to the RM-PG412. Can you confirm this? I believe that all of the universal remotes are set to use AV1 for the database, I know that both of my Sony remotes and Logitech remotes are set to use the code set for AV1. Why Sony sets their AVRs to use AV2 is beyond me.

You didn't say which receiver you have so I can't do any checking. The receiver and the remote must be in the same command mode, either AV1 or AV2, for the remote to work. If you can change both, that's good; if you can only change one then change it to match the other device's code. This statement appears at the top of this thread, so if you have any more questions, start a new thread in the forum. THIS THREAD IS INTENDED AS A REFERENCE SOURCE FOR OWNERS OF SONY RECEIVERS. PLEASE DO NOT POST QUESTIONS HERE.

Thank you very much for this resource, and I am VERY pleased to tell you that the instructions you posted for changing to AV1 on the DDW900 also worked for my DDW995. My dog ate my RM-AAP017 remote before I had a chance to try programming my new HTIB into my RM-AV3000 Commander. When neither remote would work, I was faced with paying $60 for a new remote or getting off the couch every time I wanted to change the volume. Now my universal remote is actually universal!

Awesome thread, thanks so much for this and I was getting so frustrated trying to set up my Tivo remote. New addition for the list - STR-DN1010 is hold muting and dimmer, press power button to turn on power. Once I found the DN1000 codes here it just became trial and error for the DN1010. Also, the code for the remote that comes with the DN1010 (listed as RM-AAP051) is the same as the code listed on the first post for the DN1000.

I have a the Sony STR-DA2800ES - here are the instructions for changing command mode on the receiver and the remote as quoted from the manual.
1) Press Power to turn off the receiver.
2) While holding down 2CH/A.DIRECT, press Power to turn on the receiver.
When the command mode is set to “AV2,” “C. MODE AV2” appears on the display. When the command mode is set to “AV1,” “C. MODE AV1” appears on the display
1) Press Power while pressing RM SET UP. The SHIFT button lights, and the RM SET UP button flashes. 2) Press the numeric button 1 or 2 while the RM SET UP button is flashing. When you press 1, the command mode is set to COMMAND MODE AV1. When you press 2, the command mode is set to COMMAND MODE AV2. The RM SET UP button lights up. 3) Press ENT/MEM.
The RM SET UP button flashes twice, then the command mode setting process is completed

I have just purchased an STR-DN1050 and the command mode on the receiver can be changed as follows:
1. Turn the receiver off. 2. Hold down A.F.D./2CH and press the power button to power on the receiver. 3. Command Mode AV1 or AV2 will be displayed on the screen each time this is done.
I have not figured out a solution for the remote, which is an RM-AAU189. There is no mention of changing command modes in the manual that I can find. If someone figures out the remote, that would be great.

Thanks Do you know for sure that you have the right remote for that receiver? If so it could be a faulty remote or a faulty receiver. You could try taking the remote to a store and see if it controls their Sony receivers. They might even let you see if your receiver will receive commands from their remote. I have a Sony receiver that suddenly stopped responding to commands from a remote. I think the IR circuit must have burned out. If you have a universal remote you can program it to control a Sony receiver easily. If you don't, the Sony RM-VLZ620 costs only about $20 at Amazon and should come pre-programmed to control your Sony receiver.

If the remote stopped working before you changed the command code, and now the remote works on another product, then it would seem it's the receiver that's gone bad. May be time for an upgrade to a new receiver as the str db 1080 is so old it may not be worth the cost of a repair, although it could still do duty in a place where a remote is not wanted, like in a workshop.
