I have a Marantz SR7300 receiver and the Sony AV3000. I did have the problem with the volume control the first time I programed this remote. But after reprograming and using short burst (just press the button do not hold it down) The remote works fine with my receiver now.

I own the AV3000 for some days.
Components: TV Sony KV29-FX65E; DVD Pioneer DV-444; Recv Marantz SR5200; VCR Aiwa (don't remember the model).

I suffered the continuous transmitting problem twice, both of them when pressing volume+ or volume- of the learnt Marantz SR5200. However, it did not happened when selected AMP in the AV3000 (which was programmed correctly with a preset code), but it happened when selected CD (I assigned CD volume+/- to AMP volume+/-). My CD-player is really a Pioneer DV-444 which I use as DVD and CD player.

Since I reset the CD selector, reprogrammed it completely (using a preset Pioneer code), and teached vol+/- by holding key of the Marantz remote for a long time until the AV3000 beeps, the problem has not re-appeared.

I think Marantz volume+/- keys (maybe other components too) should have something dirty in their codes that causes the AV3000 to become stuck. The "long burst" trick has worked for me.

By the way, I did not follow the "20-second rule" when popping a battery, and I did not lost my programming.

Maybe you didnt this time, but you might next time or the time after that or even the time after that. That would suck, adn it could be prevented by following the "20 second" rule. It cant hurt, why take the chance. I havent heard af anybody losing programming if they wait the 20 seconds.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

I wish I had found this forum months ago! I just put my second RMAV3000 in the mail to Sony for another "repair". Had the first one for almost 11 months and learned to live with taking the batteries out to do a reset about once a month, but decided to send it back when I lost all the programming after one of these resets (didn't know about the 20 second rule). Got the replacement unit and after spending 3 hours reprogramming, had the lockup/continuous transmit problem again! Decided to send it back this time after experiencing the problem of volume on the TV going up to max at random times. (Seems to only happen when my wife is using the remote...) I'm sure the replacement that I'll get from Sony will have all of the same problems, but after reading this forum at least I have some things to try.

My opinion of Sony products is definitely lower from this expereience. The attitude of their customer service was incredible: they had "never heard of the problem before", and the service rep insisted that the lockup problem was "just something to expect with a complicated product like the AV3000". What a load of BS, and definitely something I would NOT expect from Sony.

My advice to anyone considering a Sony remote is: DON'T!!!

Reset that component and relearn. This time don't hold down the key on the original remote while learning. Just press them like you would if you were using it to operate your device (VCR, TV, etc)

Does this continual sending problem exist with the 3100?

No, the 3100 does not continusly transmit, but it can "lock" up when learning from another remote. This wont happen all the time but everyonce in a while. The only way to get rid of the locked up signal is do do a complete reset,)which means you will have to reprogtram the whole remote over again)
I have programed 70 or so of the 3100's this year, and only had maybe 7 or so lock up. Also I have had a coulpe that the customer waited to long to chaNGE THE BATTERIES and when they finally did the remote did not work at all no light nothing!
The fix is to take all the batteries out for a couple hours, put them back in and guess what? Everything works again. Other than that it a great remote.
IF IT PROGRAMMED RIGHT!

Amen to that.

I had a 3000 and it never locked up, but my 3100 has locked up twice. Both times were from commands learned from my RM-Y182 TV remote, so I learned my lesson and when I need to learn a TV command, I use advance codes from my Cinema 7 or from another remote that operates the TV.

I decided to get a 4000, since the price wasn't that much more and the 3100 is discontinued anyway. Hopefuly my Dish equipment and it will get along better ;)

Being PC-programmable, the lockup issue should hopefully be fixed on the RM-AX4000 (or at least avoidable).

Daniel, I just wanted to throw out a reminder that I have a conspiracy theory that there was a manufacturing change that must have caused 3000/3100's to lock up.

My reasoning is that the 3000 was my THIRD Sony universal remote (I owned the 2000, 2100, then the 3000). I got the 3000 since it first appeared in the stores, whenever that was. It never, ever, and I mean ever, never, locked up, nor did it's predecesors. Toward the very end of the run for the 3000, I bought a second one, as I wanted to try some wacky macros, but instead of enduring all of Sony's strange keypresses, I wanted a second remote to hold a backup. So I found a 3000 (probably the last one or two) at a Tweeter, since I had already read that you couldn't back up a 3000 to a 3100.

The very first attempt at backing up the "old" 3000 - the new one LOCKED UP. I tried again and again and the @#$%#^%& thing just locked up, seemingly at different points along the way. So I programmed the stupid thing, learning all my remotes the hard way, thinking at least I'd still have a backup remote to rely on.

Wrong. It locked during the learning process, but I got it done after a couple starts from scratch. Then things got worse. The display on the "newer" 3000 seemed a tad brighter, so I decided to use it. It locked in transmit about every other day; I never really figured out exactly what caused it to do so (what component or button). I took it back to Tweeter, and of course like any good dealer they put it right back on the shelf, marked down $10 I believe. I asked for the store manager and informed him that no, I did not return it because I was stupid, I returned it because it locked up! It was removed from the display at that point. I don't have any exotic components.

I've read countless posts here about the 3000's and especially 3100's locking up; but I've yet to see any kind of definitive answer about what Sony did about it (except to discontinue it?)

I reluctantly got a Philips TSU-7000 (reluctantly because I really don't like the page-flipping but have gotten better at desigining my initial component pages so I rarely have to). Has it ever locked? Yes, used to be about once or twice a month - I'd hit the "reset" button and that would be that, and the early versions of the software would crash. Still, there has been improvement - the editor seems rock solid, and the remote might crash once every three months. I know, the price is quite different from the Sony remotes, but nothing ever failed as regularly as the "newer" 3000.

The original 3000, again, dating back to whenever that model was released, was given to some friends who got a new home theater setup, and has worked flawlessly to this day - NO LOCKUPS.

I'm very anxious to read of experiences with the RM-AX4000 to see if it requires resetting and reloading or if it's stable, soon I need to recommend a remote for someone with a new HT setup.

well, so far I love the look and feel of the new remote, but the AX remote Editor is crap. I spent 50 minutes going through the wizard, with it setting presets for my devices which are missing most of the features. I figured switching to advanced mode I could edit these with the software, but I cant seem to figure out how to do this. The non-assigned buttons I can't program through the software.

I guess I'll do it though the remote, and hope i can back it up once it's done.
