My new AV3000 becomes stuck while continuously transmitting. When it does this all of the buttons become unresponsive; you can't even turn it off other than by pulling out the batteries and reinserting them. It is not transmitting one particular function but seems to be transmitting many as it causes havoc with all of my various components. This is not brought on by pushing a particular button(s) as far as I can tell. Also, I exchanged the unit for a new one, thinking that the first was defective but the new one has the exact same problem. I'm wondering if one of my components is transmitting something to the AV3000 to initiate this. I called the Sony people and they told me the problem was unheard of and they couldn't help me. I think it is unlikely that I've received 2 units with the exact same defect. I'm not sure what the cause of the problem is though. Any suggestions?

I am experiencing the exact same problem! In fact I was logging in just now to write my own description when I saw yours. When I first experienced the problem I called Sony (about 2 weeks ago) - they said they had never heard of it before. So I returned my first unit and just received my 2nd one today - and it is already doing the same "constant transmittal" thing. I thought it might be caused by my particular equipment codes (Arcam Rcvr and DVD), but in light of your post I'm guessing that it's not my equipment but a generic software(?) bug. I really like the remote but I can't use it as is, so I'm going to return it and find another brand. If Sony addressed this I'd keep the remote, but aside from that it's going back!

Hey guys, try taking the remote in another room, to another tv, and see if it still does the same thing.
Dont change the code or anything, just press and see what happens.
After that enter in that rooms tv code or learn it and see what happens. If it still does it then its not your equipment, its the remote.
Did your remote come with a color (blue) quick user sheet? Some of the first models had some funky quirks
with them, the color page is the only way I can tell the difference between a old model and a new one.
I'm a installer and have ran across the same problem,
usually by tacking out the batteries seems to fix the problem. You might try a whole remote reset also, you will have to reprogram everything though.
good luck.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

Last night I had the same thing happen. I only recently finally loaded all the information I needed for my Yamaha receiver, Panasonic DVD changer, Mitsu. TV, Mitsu. VCR and Dish PVR721. I'm now using it exclusively, the way I should. Then, twice last night, the friggin' thing started continuously transmitting. It is DEFINITELY the remote, not the equipment. It appears this is a real defect, not just a quirk in one person's remote. Should this thread be in the other Sony technical forum? If this is going to keep happening, I'm not going to use it; I'm also not real interested in having to load all the information back into a new one, but I would if I knew the defect was fixed. Sony, what do you say about all of this?

I have two AV3000s. The first one, which I have had for serveral weeks, has never locked up. The second one, which I have had for about a week, has locked up every day. They should be identically programed since I copied all from one to two.

This experience makes me think that possibly only some of the units are affected by this bug? I will be exchanging the second one soon for a new one. I will try to post what happens when I get the second one.

I would like to know if others have AV3000s that have NOT had this problem. That would be interesting data.

I got my AV-3000 on Dec 24, and spent two full days programming it and changing labels. I saw the display was dimming, so I changed batteries after only two days, and then I got worried that I had a short or something. What I am getting at is that I removed the new batteries 5 or 6 times to check them, and they were okay, and then I finally remembered I had put in some slightly used batteries, which is why they ran down so soon, mainly because I had to use the light so much because the screen was so dim. I guess I am really lucky that I didn't lose all my stuff which would have made me really mad. It is working fine so far, and so much better than the AV-2100.

I have had this problem for about 8 months now - severazl times a week the remote goes into this mode of continuously transmitting. The only thing that works is to remove a battery and reinstall. Unfortunately, sometimes when you do that you lose all of your programming. (I am on my 4th time of reprogramming the unit). I have tried everything, including resetting the unit, with no luck.

I really like the layout of the Sony, and when it is working I love the remote. However, I am at the end of my rope after reprogramming the thing again yesterday. (It takes a while to reprogram and redo all of the macros you had). I am now looking into a Pronto since I cannot resolve the issues with the AV3000.

Ryan, that shouldn't have to be your last resort. Sony has said to me that I need to send it to a local Service Center, and either they'll fix it, or replace it. Chances are the next one will work; my problems with mine are extremely sporadic, and I don't lose anything but the time when I replace the batteries. Put it back on Sony, and make them read this forum! Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.

I bought the AV3000 about a month ago. When I bought it, I used the pre-programmed codes for my components. Whenever I used it with my Marantz CD player, it did the lockup thing.

However, I fixed the problem by deleting the pre-programmed codes and using learning for each code. Since then (about three weeks now), it has never locked up. I don't know if this would fix other people's lockup problems, but it seems like there might be a problem with some pre-programmed codes.

I was having the same problem on my Echostar 4900 satilite receiver. I just purchased a new Mits RPTV and decided to reprogram my remote for the Tv and the satilite receiver. Since doing this about two weeks ago I have not had the problem. So maybe what you need to do is whatever device is causing you the problem, delete it from your remote and then reprogram it. It seams to work for me so far.

I purchased my first AV3000 about 1 month ago and approximately 2 weeks ago it started getting stuck when I would hit the power button for STB ( which I programmed to learn my memorex dual deck vcr) I returned it for another one and this one had a quick instruction included. It also did the same thing so I reset everything and this time I punched in the product code and so far it's been alright.

I purchased my AV3000 as a Christmas present to myself and was wowwed from the begining. All my A/V kit is Sony and the AV3000 controls everything without me having to program codes or do any learning. Imagine how upset I was when, two weeks after purchase, the unit started continuously transmitting (Vol down, usually). Returned the unit to the Sony Centre where they "repaired" it. Another two weeks and the problem came back. Again, Sony "repaired" the unit and again, the problem came back. Now I just pop the batteries and put up with it, but I won't get another.

Be careful whaen you "POP " the batteries, I have found that if you take out a battery and put it right back in, you can lose ALL of your programing. Wait for 20 seconds or so, then reinsert the battery.

If you did not have to do any learning or codes and are using it straight out of the box, you wont lose any programing because it is going back to default, which is how you are using it. If you have relabled or are using macros, then you are taking a chance of losing programing.

If you are not using any macro's, you are missing out
on the best part of the 3000.

I've popped a battery out for a split second 5 times now due to continuous transmitting, and I've never lost anything other than the time and day. I've learned a bunch of signals not in the memory, moved and re-labelled keys, and truly customized the remote to my liking. It did it again two nights ago when hitting the "Guide" button for my Dish PVR721. It's never the same button twice; completely random when it starts transmitting continuously. WHY WON'T SONY STEP UP AND ADMIT THEIR IS A SOFTWARE CODE THAT IS CORRUPTED AND FIX THE DAMN THING??? I do not want to have to relearn everything that I've programmed. I will do it ONCE if that's what it takes to know the glitch is fixed. It's not like you can keep a file of your remotes's memory on your PC, like you can using a jp1 cable with a OneForAll or RadioShack remote. This is very frustrating, and Sony is no help at all.
