I had a customer that had his 3000 keep locking up, he called me friday night, I told him to pop a basttery out to reset it, (this was before I found out about the 20 second rule) he called me again on sunday night and said that his remote had lost ALL programing after it locked up and he rremoved a battery to reset it, which he said he had done about 10 times since friday when he first called.
What I'm getting at is that 9 out of 10 times he was ok.
Since I've started using the 20 second rule I havent had a remote lose its programming.

(the reason why his remote was locking up was because of a "dirty Marantz code" relearned the code with a long burst, no problems since.

why have a nice system if you cant operate it, program the remote the right way the FIRST time!

So how do I deal with finding a potential "dirty" code? I've got a Yamaha receiver, Mitsubishi RPTV, Dish PVR721, Panasonic DVD changer, and a Mitsubishi VCR.

I got lucky and found the dirty code right away, mainly because he had the remote for 3 months with no problems, he then added a 2 channel Marantz amp , when I learned one of the functions into the 3000, which was then added to a macro, thats when it locked up.
So I just tried the marantz code that was in the macro\by itself and found the dirty code.

For you I would suggest trying your Dish buttons firs(you said that it locked up on guide last) just go thru each button one at a time and try to get it to lock up, then m,ove on to the TV, DVD, AMP, etc.

I know for sure that the Marantz needs a long burst,
but some other manufactures just require a short burst.
Are you using the codes or the codes or both?

Let me know what you find out.

I'm using codes for the basics, plus learned additional functions to round out the feature set.

Thanks Ron for pointing me to this thread. I was begining to think it was just me, after getting sony's pat we've never heard of that answer. I reset the remote and began the long programming process. I have a Dish PVR 501 and that seems to be where the problem was. It would stick on the guide navigation or PVR function. I used short bursts to program it this time. The first time I held the down the button on the old remote until the 3000 beeped. This time I just pressed and released the button except for power that one needed a long burst. It has been 3 days now with no problems which is the longest to date....loving my new toy again.

Been experiencing the same problems with my Dish 500 system. I reset the remote for the "STB" and used the preset code "3010" to work the unit. It's hasn't done it yet....I think there is a glitch in the system for sure. Everything we're doing is just a temporary fix. To bad Sony doesn't step up and recall the units.....

Same problems and it's definitely my DishNetwork PVR programming causing the problem. I recently switched from DirecTV to DishNetwork, and that's when all my problems started. BTW, I used "Learn" mode to program ALL the functions in the remote. How do I try "short" versus "long" bursts? I've never heard of this. Is it the amount of time I press the button on the originating remote? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'd really like to find a solution to this problem since I own two of these blasted things!

A short burst is a quick push of the button of the original remote and a long burst is holding the button down until the AV3000 beeps to indicate that it has learned the signal.

Kept experiencing problems from the remote repeating itself with the "learned" codes. Reprogrammed my Dish system with a preset (Can't remember which one I used currently) and it hasn't repeated since! It's been almost a month. Just thought I would report on my findings.

I used to have this problem of continuously transmitting with my Dish network 4900 receiver, but since I change to a model 6000 I have not experienced this problem. Maybe you need to reprogram your dish receiver.

Piece of crap did it to me again. This time, I forgot to pull the batteries out and wait a bit. Bad, bad mistake. I pulled one battery momentarily (1 couple seconds) and wiped out 2 HOURS worth of programming. Believe me, if I could send this PIECE OF SHIT back to Sony and buy another remote, I would. Sony needs to admit this problem exists and give users the option of 1) MONEY BACK or 2) ANOTHER UNIT. I'd even go for a repair if it was possible. It looks like a programming bug to me and a SERIOUS one at that.

I picked up and programmed an AV3000 yesterday... and I have the same problem. It only happens when I hold down the change channel button to scroll channels... it will get stuck broadcasting the change channel signal and then I have to yank a battery in order to get it to stop. WEAKSAUCE!

Careful when you yank out that battery, wait 20 seconds before you reinsert it. Relearn the problem button.

The dirty device is the one which you used last (the one which is on the display). The dirty code is obviously the one you pressed last. This is hard to remember. So you have to go through all the buttons on that display.

But make sure you recreate the problem before you fix it so that you can see if it is fixed after relearning the program.

In case you have more than one dirty code, then you have to do the whole process again. It is definitely worth it.

I had this problem with my Philips CD recorder's stop button. Re created the problem by pressing the stop button and removed the battery (followed 20 sec rule) and relearned the code with a short burst. Now it is fine.

I have had the same problem got the unit in 8/02. locks up now almost daily. Sony was no help denied problem exist. Total reset has not helped. I would not recomend this product to anyone, I will be looking at the pronto next. The AV2100 that I have works great never had problem. But I can not continue to spend 1 hours each week reprogramming a remote. NONE OF THE TIPS ON THIS SITE HAVE HELPED
