Over-The-Air television (as well as radio stations, cable and satellite providers) are now required (as of March 31) to air EMERGENCY ALERTS.[Link: crtc.gc.ca]The CRTC says five companies, Bell, Bell Aliant, MTS, Shaw and Soetel notified them that they would not be ready for the March 31 implementation date.

Channel 31 Cleveland (currently abandoned) will be one of the test stations for the futurecast ATSC 3.0 next generation standard. Testing begins in May by LG and GatesAir . Even if you live close enough to receive the signal, you won't be able to watch it as you don't own an ULTRA HD tv set yet. [Link: tvnewscheck.com]

WUTV-DT will begin airing a new Sunday morning news program this fall, which will begin airing on all Sinclair owned network affiliates. The program will be hosted by (former CBS correspondent) Sharyl Attkisson.

One Day At A Time fans should note that episodes have been airing on ANTENNA TV out of order due to the number of times each episode can air. The "Ann's Crisis" episode (#51) will be airing on Sunday during the marathon at 12pm. Note: WGRZ 2-2 will pre-empt the marathon for Channel 2 News at Daybreak at 11:00, Beyond A.D. at 14:00, Channel 2 News at 19:00, and for The Closer at 21:00.

With the switch of CHEX-DT/TV (and CKWS-DT) to CTV from CBC affiliation, I guess a lot of people in the Oshawa (and Kingston) area will lose CBC programming. [Link: chextv.com]

This affiliation change will cause the shut down of CFTO-54 Bobcaygeon and CJOH-6 Deseronto. CHEX and CKWS and its repeaters will cover the affected areas.

FCC Grants Temporary Waiver of Audible Crawl Rule
Broadcasters now have until November 2016 before the FCC will require them to “aurally describe the critical details regarding the emergency and how to respond to the emergency . . . including the critical details conveyed solely by a map or other graphic display.”

Presumably there are non-compete agreements between CFTO / CHEX and CJOH / CKWS. I wonder if CHEX-TV-2 will continue to compete against CFTO of if CKWS-TV-2 (Prescott) and CKWS-TV-3 (Smith's Falls) will continue to compete against CJOH? I'd bet the CKWS repeater in Brighton CKWS-DT-1 remains since it doesn't really compete with either CFTO or CJOH.
