Thought I'd start a thread for any reception issues viewers in the Toronto or Buffalo areas might have.

Please note that we maintain a list of all current HDTV channels in the region here. If you have questions or updates related to that page, please post them here!

List updated November 19, 2016: updates and additions to numerous subchannels.

What kind of luck do you have with WKBW HD? I can rarely lock on to it, and if I do, it drops out regularly. I know the signal level is good, and I only live 16 miles(south) of the transmitter. I have few problems with the other Buffalo area HD channels.
Another interesting issue:
I was watching CSI Miami in HD (OTA WIVB Buffalo) monday evening with a Dishnetwork 811 receiver. Each time there was a gunshot, the picture froze for about 8 seconds. Every gunshot did this, and it have never happened at any other time. Any theories?

WKBW: I'm north of Toronto, about 90 miles away from ABC's transmitter, but it seems to come in best of the 3 stations in that area (NBC/CBS/ABS). Although sometimes it seems that atmospheric conditions put up a complete wall to anything south of Grand Island for me. NBC is the worst of all; I rarely get that with any reliability. ABC has known issues with brief blips on their network feed, and from what I hear it even happens to cable viewers.

WIVB: Something over there has (always had) problems with certain source material - notably the grainy "here's what likely happened" shots during any CSI show. Not sure if that's your issue, but try tuning in 32 (UPN) instead of 39, it's also showing CBS and so far has no difficulties.

Well, for once yesterday's (Wednesday's) HDTV viewing was without a single glitch the whole night. ABC, Fox and CBS in a row.

I wonder if WKBW's fixed their intermittant glitch problem? I haven't seen it for the past two or three shows I've watched...

And anyone catch Fox's "Rebel Billionaire" on Tuesday? It's sort of a cross between The Apprentice, The Amazing Race and Fear Factor. And it's all in HDTV... high def reality TV is great, makes fuzzy episodes of Survivor look all the more worse. Amazing 5.1 sound mix as well - if a bit overbearing on the rear channels. For the first time I had to turn them down 3db for comfort.

WKBW must have fixed something. I have no problems at all with HDTV reception.

Something going with WNLO 32? My receiver has crashed twice in the past two days while tuning it (has never crashed before).

WIVB *almost* messed up by presenting CSI:NY in SD tonight (despite a 2-hour HD movie just before), but suddenly switched over to HD at 15 minutes in. Not a single glitch otherwise tonight, although their problem with dropping sound during local-inserted material was back en force.

What is the latest on HDTV for CTV and CBC in Toronto and CHCH in Hamilton? I'm hopeful I can pick these up once they get online. I'm hoping to see Hockey night in Canada on CBC (boy, am I optimistic). My location is about 2 miles east of WNGS-67. ( and I can't get Ch 67!)

I think I've heard that CBC may be going live early next year. However, for CTV and others like Global, the rumors are that they're going to delay as long as possible before going on air. The CRTC requires them to transmit off-air for their HDTV cable license, but has given a 2 (?) year grace period where they don't have to. So they're not.

No, but it shouldn't be any different than using a standalone receiver: your antenna will be key.

I'm using a HDTV Wonder card in downtown Toronto.

I get all of the Buffalo stations - ABC/CBS/NBC/PBS/FOX + Toronto 1 & City TV.

Hmm, the HD guy at WUTV must have been off today - no HD presentation of Spider Man! Although CITY had it, I would have preferred 5.1 on Fox. :-)

Hi Westhead74,
Are you getting those stations through cable or antenna?

Thanks,
Thotdoc

With the HDTV Wonder it would be by antenna.
