Rob: thanks for the links. I received complete codes from RS support yesterday, including 1162. Last night I just about went bonkers trying to test advance codes in 1162 mode: the VCR obviously responded to On/Off and basic functions, but nothing else would activate. Wish I'd seen your response!

And thanks also for digging up that link to the other thread... I'd forgotten about that. I'll give it a try. This morning, though, I taught the Timer Record and arrow functions from the original.

Just imagine if Radio Shack brings out a new version of the 15-1995 that has learning (like the 15-1994) and an internal modem (like the older 15-1918 and 15-1925) so you can download new device codes, and while they are at it, they add more memory for learning and adv codes.

What more could you possibly ask for, the SL-9000 would eat their dust!!!

BTW: check out my new 15-1994 web page at [Link: nettrash.com]

I apologize if these issues have already been covered.

I have a RS 15-1994, and I need the following please:

+10 key code for Yamaha CD 5 disc carousel coded 0036

slow play key code for Panasonic VCR coded 1162

Bass Boost key code for Sony STR-DE925 AV Receiver coded 0158

Also, please advise on the following: Does re-assignment of an operation key under a certain device key render that same operation key non-operational under a different device key?

THANKS for any help!!

Now for the ultimate question: does anyone know of a most excellent neato way to label the keys on the 15-1994 so I can see where I put all those codes?

THANKS for any help!

BTW, after excellent help from Rob, I can now say that the 15-1994 is the best remote for the money.

BUT, in my opinion, my old Yamaha MRX-100 100 key assignable IR remote was the ULTIMATE remote. That remote served me SO efficiently for 10 years before it finally died. It did everything with keys to spare! And it was so easy to operate! No need to go to a device first! Just press one key and the function was done! Are any companies listening?

David, you can check out Rob's excellent new website (see posting above) for everything you need. He's even posted new codes from another source for the Sony receiver, and has codes for the Panasonic VCR. In fact, I'd like to hear if any of the ones you're looking for work for your system: the hoped-for codes don't work for me on my Sony DB-930 (like bass boost and cursor control).

hey, Mike. Sorry I didn't make myself clear. I meant that all my problems are solved when I said "after excellent help from Rob, I can now say that the 15-1994 is the best remote for the money." I know, I know, I failed logic and rhetoric.

Rob explained the fixes for all my problems over in the "One For All" forum. Look for my message subject: "a few code questions please". The fixes he explained most probably will solve your receiver problems since ours are so similar.

Excellent help, and now I even know what I'm doing. I can solve more problems on my own now. WHEEEEE!

GOOD LUCK!

Y'know what? I don't think ANYthing is going to stick to our 15-1994s 'cause of that super silky surface. Just doesn't feel like anything except maybe super glue is going to adhere a label. And I'd like to be able to change the label in the future! Oh well, I guess having to memorize those code placements will help keep the alzheimers at bay.

What happened to this thread? I used to read the new replies 1 or 2 times a day. Always looked forward to learning new tips and tricks. It was this tread that got me to buy a 15-1994.

Let's keep this informative thread ALIVE. Let's keep posting for all those that don't yet realise the power of this remote.

Okay!
I'm a TIVO owner and 15-1994 does not support a code for this device. I've read here that others have memorized all of the TIVO remote codes successfully. In the past I could get all but 2 codes memorized before I ran out of memory (thumbs UP and thumbs DN buttons). Last night I decided that if others could get them all in, then I should too. My first five attempts ended up with fewer codes than my prior setup (and fear that I'd never get back to where I was). After 3 hours and over 15 attempts at learning the whole series of buttons (totally clearing the remote in between attempts) I finally got ALL buttons learned. Here is what I learned about how to minimize the space needed to learn buttons:

1) NOTHING!

I could not correlate any changes in learning technique with increase/decrease in memory usage. I just kept trying, and each time I ended up with anywhere from 3 to 5 more/fewer buttons before running out of memory.

Can anyone shed any light on this topic??

Schlepp:
Do you realise that the "One For All" forum is also a forum for the 15-1994 and other Radio Shack remotes? If not, check it out, there are new posts every day. Almost all the information posted about an OFA remote will be the same for your R/S remote. (The Cinema 7 is similar to the 15-1994 and the Producer 8 remotes are similar to the 15-1995, functionality wise that is).

Ed:
I would be interested to hear any feedback also. I have learned 22 buttons on my 15-1994, but I don't want to risk not getting as many in next time by messing with it. I may get another 15-1994 while they're on sale, just to mess with. I already have a Cinema 7 purely for messing around purposes.

Sad news, Jordy. It cannot be done. Check out Rob's web page for the codes for the Sonys; all the models use the same signals, with some odd variations.

You will be able to get the SoundField mode to be learned. However, it will probably take a lot of tries: Try learning from the following original remote keys: SoundField; or select SoundField, then use Enter (to send a DSP signal); or Cursor Mode; or one of the cursor keys.

Sooner or later the signal will be learned. But once you leave SoundField mode and go into EQ, or anything else, you will not get back into SoundField mode without the original remote, or at the receiver itself. I am trying to find out why, from Sony. ... Mike

OK Schlepp,
This'll kill ya!

I've just had an amazing brainwave! I've just figured out how to make the 15-1994 a SEVEN device remote!!!!

program a regular device key with the right code for your equipment, and then move all the functions to the "Plug & Power" button, or learn them there.

Obviously this is going to use up alot of your programming memory, but if you are thinking of setting up a device for something like Replay TV where you're going to have to learn all the functions anyway, or if you're setting up the remote to handle the Apex DVD player, where you're going to have to program all the buttons indivually anyway, then it's totally worth it.

If you are using the P&P button for your X10 equipment, then you already have a seven device remote.

FYI: If you want to use this feature for the Apex, here's an example of the commands you would need to do:

1. Set up the TV button to device 0030.
2. Then move the codes like this:

Press "Plug & Power"
Press and hold SETUP (two blinks)
Type 994 (two blinks)
Press TV, SETUP, 052, POWER

(This will move the TV adv code 052 to the POWER button under p&p)

Cool eh?
