I bought it and returned it because it is NOT a learning remote.

In response to Morton's 1994 programming summary above: Morton, you are THE MAN! Thanks! The nice printout replaces the scribblings I got by working my way through this thread. (Now if someone would summarize all of the codes for just my components!) In response to others above, my 1994 (bought a few weeks ago) definitely has a weird, grippy finish that could be described as "suede-like", it is NOT slippery.

In response to all.......This thread is kind of long isn't it? Pushing 400 messages.

In response to Jim's post:
Yup 400 posts is pretty big. Makes this thread bigger than a couple of the forums. Sounds to me like this product may rate an official review and forum status. Anyone agree?

If this remote can generate this much interest and satisfied customers I would say that people should be made aware of its existence before they go and spend $100+ on a remote which has umpteen million options they'll never use, or just simply looks cooler. It was pure luck that I entered the forums here and found this thread. Most people would stop at the reviews and go make a purchase from there.

I think I'll email the site master and let him in on my idea :) Or is Radio Shack poo-poo'ed by the Home Theater elite? I'll find out I guess.

Chris, I agree exactly, I was kind of thinking the same thing, just too shy to say it. There certainly is nothing wrong with a Pronto or similar super duper remote. I still might get one, because I love to play around with that kind of stuff. BUT, if you have any kind of home theater at all, you'd be crazy not to spend $30 to try this remote, even as a backup. Thats less than 2 DVD's. Sure, it says Radio Shack, sure its "cheap", but all in all, it looks and feels pretty nice, and works pretty well, IF you figure out how to program it.

The key thing is this: If you buy this remote, you MUST read the information in this thread! Otherwise, you will wonder what on earth everyone is talking about. The manual gives no clue whatsoever about the capability of this remote, In fact, it has incorrect information, and a whole lot of missing information. Its strange. But, Radio Shack may wake up. (Or, maybe not). I know when I went down to my local store, they said people have been coming in and snapping them up. I got the last one out of the case.........

I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find the advanced codes for my panasonic tv (0250). I own the 15-1994 and this is all I need to finish my setup and would love to put away my six odd remotes for good.

Thanks
Jim

There are many advanced codes at http://www.starbase314.com There are additional codes, and lots of advice on how to program the 15-1994 on the FAQ page. Also, regarding the 15-1994 having it's own forum, the "One For All" forum kinda doubles as a 15-1994 forum, as the OFA remotes have the same internal works as the 15-1994, they just don't look as cool :)

Hello all
I have had this remote for the last 4 months and it works great. I just bought a panasonic PCDV-100 camcorder and it has a remote sensor but I did not buy the remote because I wanted to use the 15-1994. Now I just need the codes for a panasonic camcorder. If anyone has them or has successfully used the remote with a camcorder please let me know.
Thanks
Jeff

Just found this forum and can not say enough good things. But, to the nitty gritty.
I am in need of upgrading my RS Six in One to either the 1994 or the new 1995. With only a ten dollar difference in cost, any suggestions? I am up on the goods I have read here, but the looks of the 1995 are tempting.
So confused ;)

The 15-1994 and the 15-1995 are the same except for these two things:

1. The 15-1994 is a learning remote and has four extra buttons (supposedly for learning commands, but you can actually learn to almost any button on the remote)

2. The 15-1995 has the RF feature. The remote sends out both an IR and an RF signal, there is an external device that comes with the remote that you have permanently positions pointing at you equipment, so that when you don't have a direct line of vision from the remote to the equipment, it will still control them via the RF. This is useful if you have speakers out in the garden or on the deck, and you want to be able to control the volume.

They are both excellent remotes, and well laid out, so make your choice.

But Rob, isn't it true that the 1995 is NOT a learning remote?

Gentlemen: After an exhaustive search, I am still missing a key code for my Panasonic SVHS PV-VS4820-K, which functions under device code 0162, I believe: I cannot access Timer Recording, and when it does display, I cannot find an "enter" code to select Timer Recording. Further, the Up/Down arrows are missing codes which would allow me to scroll through the lists available.

The 0162 code also worked on my earlier model Panasonic, so it's probably safe to assume that if you have these codes for your model, they are worth trying on mine. Thanks to any rescuers.

Hey Mike Riley,
Have you tried the other Panasonic codes, 0162 is a pretty basic code. The others are 1162, 1062 and 1262. The one that works best for me is 1162, the arrow keys work fine. There are a few buttons that don't have an obvious mapping put on SHIFT keys.

If you need to assign advanced codes, you may need to use both 0162 and 0454 as device codes to assign the functions, and then re-assign to 1162 or whatever device code that works best. Don't try testing adv codes while in 1162 as that doesn't seem to work properly.

Check out this thread from the One For All forum: [Link: remotecentral.com]

Here are the codes for 0162: [Link: nettrash.com]

and here are the code sfor 0454: [Link: nettrash.com]

Rob.
PS. The 15-1995 is NOT a learner, if it was it would be almost perfect!

REALLY a shame the 15-1995 is not a learner, especially with its RF capability and very cool device/clock LCD. I HATE it when that happens! (iHiwth!) Also, when it's on sale (as it is right now), it's only $10 more than the 15-1994. I'm hoping for a model 15-1996 in the next line that's a learning version of the 1995.

Just picked up six 1994s for buddies in my wedding party. (Fiance's friends got the jewelry that matches their outfits -- SORRY, LADIES!) BTW, maybe the MX-1000 will be out in time for our first anniversary???

Both models have great backlighting (which can be set to activate at the touch of ANY button, not just the 'light' button -- HELLO, Home Theater Master and Sony!) and, as many of us appreciate, have SEPARATE transport and cursor buttons. :) All things considered, darn good deals for $40-70US, IMHO.
