I'm trying to find the rechargeable battery pack for the pronto/RC5000 in the U.K.

I've tried contacting Phillips directly but I can't source the battery unit on it's own without buying the docking station that comes with the battery pack.

Surely there must be somewhere I could get the original or 3rd party rechargable battery pack from either Home or away?

You don't need the Philips pack. Simply use regular NiMH AA batteries.

BB I tried using regular NiMH 1300 AA batteries but still nothing. I brought the Docking station and charger used and it didn't have the battery pack with it. I pressumed that the pronto/RC5000 would use regular NiMH but some people have told me you can't . I'm getting conflicting stories.

I just thought the offical Philips/Marantz batteries were regular ones just straped together with tape and a price tag to go with that.

Thanks anyway for your help. It could be that the d/s or charger is faulty and there's no problems with the batteries.

the battery pack is special, the doc/charger can only work with that pack (there are 4 connectors two for charging and two for powering). You can try ordering it from Philips in the US, the info is in the file section. But at the price they are selling it you are better off getting the whole set (don't know how much in the UK, but here I have seen it for under 40

Thanks Anthony for the advice. I've contacted a few AV (audio/Video) suppliers in the U.K and they said that it was cheaper to buy a new Pronto/RC5000 Docking station then a replacement battery pack. The DS retails at £50 in the U.K but I can source it for £40.

One supplier suggested that if I could supply them with a (dead) rechargeable pack that they would exchange it for a new pack under warranty for a small charge.

But the only problem is that I need someone the send me a (dead) rechargable pack. Any ideas ???

At first, I saw Barrier's message (You don't need...use regular NiMH...).
So I ran to a shop and bought 4x NiMH AA, then I realized that was a wrong advice!
At once, I took my cutter, my soldering station and my patience. I opened it and exchanged batteries cells. The most delicate was to pull back stuck parts without break them.
No I have a new pack NiMH 1800mAh for 18$.
Thanks to mister Barrier for his mistake. :-)

Hello,

The docking station can only recharge the Philips genuine batteries, as they have special sense connections.

You can use regular NiMH batteries and charge them with an external charger.

If you already own a Philips battery pack which is out ouf usage, you can probably open it and replace the defective bateries with four regular NiMH AA cells.
ones.

Hello,

Congratulations, you did an excellent job !

So, you are right, I forgot to say regular batteries can only be charged with an external charger, unless you integrate them in an old battery pack as you did.

As the original pack is a 1200 mAh, you have also gained 50 % more battery life by using 1800 mAh cells.

Thanks Barrier for the info. I'll have to use regular rechargables in an external charger as I don't have an offical phillips battery pack. I took the D/S to an AV supplier who said pretty much what you mentioned. The D/S will only work if you use the offical pack.

Any one got a spare (Dead pack) lying around :D

Hello X-Man,

Just to let you know the part number for the Battery pack is listed below:

3104 200 50970

It is available from Philips as a spare part. Alternatively try giving SEME a call to see if they can supply it from the Marantz side Tel : 01664 484 001

If not drop me a mail as I may be able to source one for you.

Regards

Dicky

Let me get this straight...

If I have a bad Philips battery pack I can remove the batteries inside the pack and replace them with regular NiMh ones and it will work?

The reason I ask is I bought a TS1000 and docking station from a guy. He never used the D/S and when I tried to charge the battery it only lasts for 1-2 mins. once charged.

I guess I should also ask how do you know if it is indeed the battery that is bad or the charger?

if you know how to do the surgery, replacement & repair.

how long have you left the current battery on to charge, and what do the dock lights indicate?
you might have to condition it a few times.

THe light stays on for maybe five mins tops then goes out. The charge lasts for maybe a couple mins then goes completely dead.

Hey all,

Check the market place forum. I just listed a battery pack on EBAY. Item number 3013644791. Mention RemoteCentral and I'll throw in a second battery for add'l $10.
