Hi,

Thanks very much for your efforts on this; I've checked out your web site and the effort looks interesting, but I still have a few basic questions.

First, I would like to create a CCF for my new Pioneer FV-727 300 disc changer in which I could select movies or CDs by clicking on a tiny scan of the DVD or CD cover art. Will your program allow me to do this? For that matter, is it even possible to randomly skip to a disc located at any position in the changer?

Also, from what I can gather, your software is designed not only to create CCFs with your existing discs, but also to easily add, delete or edit the list as well. Is that correct?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for the comments.

At the moment you can't have individual images for each disc. It would surely use a lot of memory but I guess with 2meg remotes out now it might be feasible. Maybe once all the other features are complete I can look at this but I can't promise anything. (I would like to at least do bitmaps for each artist/category, though, but even that isn't high on the priorities at the moment.)

Selecting a random disc isn't easy because the Pronto isn't programmable like that; everything is static. The closest I've seen is an inventive idea by George Fournaris (George's Random Jump in the Files, Design Elements section): a pseudo-button is made from lots of tiny strips which each pick something different, so the outcome depends on exactly where you press. I don't know if this would be suitable or not but I'll add it to my list of things to look into.

Yes, the program I'm writing aims to make it easy to edit the list as well as to create it: You'll be able to update it quickly using the user-friendly GUI, press Execute and then send the new config to your remote with ProntoEdit. (At the moment you can try out the editing side of it but the CCF output isn't quite ready yet.)

Thanks for your reply. Do you know, by chance, if the Pioneer is capable of having any disc selected randomly (regardless of what the Pronto can do)? Just curious...

I'd be very surprised if it didn't but I don't know for sure.

My Sony changer has 1-disc shuffle (play the tracks on one disc in random order) and all-disc shuffle (play the discs in random order).

Sorry, I didn't mean random (it does support random play), but I'm wondering if it can pick a specific disc. In other words, can I have it select disc 38 or 172 or what have you without having to scroll through them. If that's the case, then it seems to be it would be relatively easy to create a CCF with icons that would jump to the movie or CD that I wanted to play.

That's exactly what Super-Nudelist is for, creating CCFs like that without the bother of organising thousands of frames and buttons (and reorganising them when you get a new CD that goes in the middle of the list).

Check the manual for your Pioneer to see what it can do. On the Sony you press "disc", type in a number and then press "enter".
