As a software developer, I can sympathize with Philips' developers' plight. Yeah, we all want it and say that we'll live with the bugs. Fact is, all it will take is a bug that dumps somebody's carefully recorded, difficult to program codes by accident to start a potentially serious PR problem for Philips.

We've all seen people on sites like this fly off the handle when something doesn't work and bash a product unfairly. It doesn't take too many of these before rumors start spreading that the Pronto is having problems.

I want it as bad as anybody else. Hope they make the release this week. Fact is, they may not. Guess the best thing I can say is:

Tick........Tick.........Tick......... Hey, if I stay up another half hour, I'll have a day less to wait ;)

I just got the following email from Philips tech support. I hope he's right :)

"The software should be out on this site by the end of the month, when the software is available, call 888-486-6272 to get your cable."

Well barring weekends, that leaves the rest of today and tomorrow.

Let's hope.

Will it be the Super Bowl, or downloading prontoedit...the choice of the year. And the super bowl network thought there was no competition.

Interesting

Called the number today. She seemed informed. Told me that the cables were to come into the warehouse this week and would ship once processed, tagged, and boxed. I told her, this week means tomorrow is Friday. She said, they should be in the warehouse already then. As for the software, she said that it would ship with the cable.

The other Philips people I have spoken to had to put me on hold to go ask someone else. Interesting.

If that is the case mine will be going to our address in WA while I am at home in the UK.

Will someone please put the software up on the net so that I can get a copy before spring.

Many thanks

Nigel.

Is Philips going to give the software to anyone who wants it, or are they charging for it?

And, does anyone know how big (in pixels) the different buttons are on Pronto?

Thanks,
James

I am still a bit confused. Will all the new Prontos now made be stocked with both the cable and the software? Or will new Pronto purchasers always have to download (or have it shipped to them) software and have a cable sent out to them as well upon registration?

The fact that Philips have said that boxed sets of cable + software are shipping today (or very soon) is interesting. I thought the software that was to be posted on the web today was beta software. If that is the case, then why is Philips going to the trouble of shipping out boxed sets of software, only to have to ship out replacement disks when the final software is available. Philips do make great products, I have a Philips 16x9 32" TV over here in th UK and it is the best picture I have seen on a tube. They really do need to sort out their corporate communications, and support departments though. We may only be a very small portion of their customer base, but we are probably the most vocal.

It's finally here, I downloaded it from the philips site about an hour ago.

We can now make our Prontos do almost anything!
