Which phone number? If it's that toll free
customer support, they're about as informed
as a bag of hammers. They couldn't provide
a release date for Pronto, AFTER the thing was already selling for a month.

Let's not discount January until January is over... :-)

I agree with Daniel.

Also, if indeed it is not January don't make such a big deal about it. I'd start making a big deal some time in March based on the history of software releases.

I'm sure they have good reasons for the delay that will only benefit the user in the long run. They know how critical the users can be and if a glitch occurs all hell breaks loose.

Just because the beta is working for Daniel and Jack does not mean it's ready for mass market.

What if they had just a rare bug that rendered 1 in 100 Pronto's dead, do realize how much that would cost them.

I have no doubt we will get the software when they feel it's ready and I don't want it if it's not ready.

Go rent a Movie or something.

You know, it would be nice if Philips would post SOMETHING on their web site so we would all know the official story without all this speculation. I was told, at CES, that it would be on their web site by month end PERIOD. The guy I talked to said there was no way they would miss this date.

If it's not up this week, the people responsible had better be careful crossing the parking lot, because I'll be waiting, engine running...

But seriously, I've been rattling cages, and I think the right people now have an appropriate sense of urgency... frankly I'm as frustrated as everyone else that ProntoEdit isn't freely available yet.

I called Philps today at about 12:30 est. They told me to call back about 3:00 est because there supervisor was going to have a meeting with them about the software. I called back at 3:30 and she told me that it would be realsed in mid Feb.

to AHP... can't you get someone to post this thingy as is with a 'dont bother me if you break' clause?

I don't think any of us care at this point if it is a beta. After all, if Microsoft can ship Word for the mac WITH 3,000+ (yesreally) documented bugs... then whats a beta of software for a remote? Seriously-it's not like Philips is writing air traffic control software!

I'm quite confident that ProntoEdit will be up some time later this week. The 'to be released' version was built this morning and the person working on the site has told me that he hopes he'll be able to have everything implemented by tomorrow.

Regards,

Jan

The recent post from Jan would seem to be as close to a post from Philips we're going to be seeing and I think he speaks with some insight and knowledge, based especially on all previous posts coming from his direction. Let's all give Philips the opportunity to "make" the date they've promised in the previously posted press release.
As to the most recent build, there is at least one feature that is highly valuable to everyone in this build which IS NOT in the build I currently have. The build I have is the same as seen at CES so they've still been at work making a few last minute(and timely) updates.

Keep in mind folks we may be mixing up the dates of Beta vs Release. Perhaps they plan to have the "Release" version in Mid Feb and the Beta by the end of Jan.

The fact we have several "Pronto" people reading your inputs should say something about how serious this folks are to getting the job done.

Ut-Oh the boss is knocking at my door asking why our release is not done yet :-)

That is a very good point about the "Beta vs Release" dates, I had not even considered that!

I am very pleased to hear the software will be out before the end of the week in time for the superbowl. I am pretty surprized by how much I am looking forward to getting my hands on the software!

Jack, you have got to tell us what that feature is now, I am going nuts wondering. :)

Thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it!

You guys aren't watching the other posts!

The idea of updating the Pronto's flash program via ProntoEdit was discussed and Daniel queried about versions etc. And then there's the case(s) of the 4 beep problem which is a corrupted flash. And then there's the issue that flash is told to get ready for a program by pulsing it. And it all adds up to the ability to potentially repair a Pronto's problem in the field via a flash update in ProntoEdit. AKA remember Sony's early DSS problem and how the brilliant engineering team fixed it via uploading from the ground via the DirecTV birds whcih dumped doen to the flash in the Sony IRD's? Same game as I understand. Also, new feature potentials, who knows? All because of programable flash. This feature IS NOT in the build I have. Great feature!
