I've recently acquired another RC9200 (I have 4 !!) - it looks mint - I thought I'd bought a real bargain. However, it won't start up - it just keeps rebooting. I've used hyperterminal to connect to the RC9200 - no problem there. I even managed to download a CCF using Xmodem protocol - I thought I'd cracked it but no. On hitting "GO" after the CCF had successfully downloaded, the remote began constantly rebooting once again - DAMN! I'm just hearing a couple of faint "ticks" each time the machine reboots, rather than the much louder "tick tick" I'm used to. The screen remains pretty much blank. The only time the screen lights up (and it's plain white - no graphics whatsoever) is when I press the reset button. The battery is good - I took it out of one of my other RC9200s which works perfectly. I fear the remote is terminally deceased - unless there's something else I could try ??

If is an all white screen, might want to open it up and reseat the cables. Search this forum for replace 9200 screen as I think there are steps listed.

Did you also do a firmware upgrade on it?

Many Thanks for your replies Lyndel - I really wasn't expecting any!
The white screen I speak of only appears when I hold down the reset button, and then only briefly. I also I see a couple of vertical lines. If I don't hold down the reset button the screen uniformly and momentarily lights dark grey with faint "tick tick" repeating every few seconds. I've never seen anything resembling buttons/text etc
I've no idea on how to do a firmware update - perhaps you could give me a clue?

Fixed it !!
I would accuse myself of muppetry of the highest order but for the explanation that follows....
I took the battery pack out of one of my other fully operational RC9200s (This RC9200 had been sat in it's charging cradle) and fitted it to my new RC9200. The behaviour of the new RC9200 was something I've never seen before and is described in my OP. As a last resort I dismantled the remote and reseated cables etc - everything looked physically fine. I reassembled it but still the same issue. That's it I thought - no joy, and put the battery back in the other remote. I was perplexed when IT didn't power either! Bottom line? - The battery was at fault !! when I put in another battery pack from yet another RC9200 of mine both remotes worked perfectly. The moral of this story is - make absolutely sure the battery is good. If the remote had been completely dead I might have tried another battery straight away - it was the strange behaviour that threw me. On reflection, I seem to remember the battery I used didn't hold it's charge very well. Perhaps I am a muppet after all !! ;- )

Glad you got it sorted. On a positive note, now you know how to take apart one of these remotes and put it back together without breaking the contrast wheel variable potentiometer away from the board during disassembly.
