Both my DVD and VCR remotes have "jog" dials on them for fast forward, frame advance, reverse, etc. I am trying to find out if I can set up the Pronto to perform these functions also.

If anyone has any experience with this please let me know.

Thanks

Well, my experience leads me to believe "maybe". I have an older Hitachi VCR whose remote only had *button* duplicates for the jog/shuttle wheel on the unit. When I got a second Hitachi VCR, I was pleased to find my older one could be changed to a "B" set of codes (Oddly enough, I've NEVER found another pre-programmed remote that had these "B" codes -- and their new VCRs don't even have the option), which the remote also operated. So when it came time to program the Pronto & the two VCRs, all I needed was the old remote and it's buttons - a piece of cake.

However, I also have a Sony S500D DVD player which comes with a shuttle ring on it. I was able to learn this into the Pronto fairly easily. The biggest challenge is timing. You have to turn the ring at a constant pace, or else the Pronto gets confused. If you find it still gets confused, only turn one notch so only one signal is broadcasted.

Now, if you have one of those VCRs with a shuttle ring that only turns 180 degrees (with different signals sent out at different points for "slow", "play" "fast forward" "2x FF" "6x FF" etc), I don't believe there's any way those will work. But then again, it also won't work with any other remote. :-)

While I haven't received the Pronto yet, so I haven't tried it on that, I have been able to learn from an older Sony VCR with that style of shuttle on the remote to my Pioneer Learning Remote. I just had to have the shuttle turned to the 2x or slow motion, etc commands and keep it there during the learning process.

I was able to learn my RCA VCR's jog commands into Pronto, BUT: My OEM remote is of the type mentioned above with a different code for every point on the shuttle. This required a different button on the Pronto for each "step", and coordination/counting while programming. Fortunately, there is a VCR template for this, which kind of looks like an arch. There IS an advantage to this arrangement: I can go immediately to just the right step.

I programmed my Kenwood LD player jog and shuttle controls. Each has a set of 2 buttons on the Pronto, one + one - and both work the same as the OEM "wheel", no problem. At some point I'll make up a bitmap and land a few buttons on top of it but in the meantime, it works fine as is.
