I've been using SNL for my cd changer and mp3 and could not get along without it. I've started playing around with making my own graphics (TSU-2000)and have a question. I've added embedded text to the left and right side buttons bitmaps for the list, but on the continuation buttons SNL puts text (">>") on the button also. Is there a way to disable this other than deactivating the continuation links? Thanks for your help and hard work.

Unfortunately,

You cannot disable the '>>' text if you use continuation buttons. I suggest trying 'No Cont Buttons - Bottom Links Active' in the Advanced List Settings for continuation buttons and bottom links.

The concept of SNL is great. I just purchased a Sony 400 disc changer and was looking forward to getting SNL up and running over the holiday weekend. I have made my own ccf files for various devices with success using pronto edit. But I am confused over how to operate SNL which I installed tonight. Program runs but I do not know how to use it. Is there some documentation somewhere that I might download? I have looked at many posts but don't find a link for a doc file. Many thanks.

Jump-Start zip with .DOC and .CCF sent to your address on profile.

It will help you if you print out all 15 pages of this thread and read the release notes (HTML files) supplied with the zip. From there, you should also visit Leo's site as referenced in this thread as well as the release notes.

BTW, Donations are much appreciated.

Lyndel...you provide SO much info. Is there a way I could get that zip file also? Been playing around with SNL for the entire holiday and I'm close, but no cigar. Thanks.

I have more than approximately 1000 disks and really was hoping to get SNL up and running this holiday weekend. But so far all I have done is accumulate corrupted files, spending in 2 days more than 20 hours trying to get SNL working properly. That time does include exporting a list of my disks from a database into a cvs file and cleaning up any apparent problems. I guess the major problem is that I am not a programmer. I spent over two hours attempting to get color other than text only to find that I had missed a crucial message in the forum that made it clear that not only must the color directory have the correct name but it must contain a folder with the same name as a list.

The major problems are: continued error messages about buttons already being in a panel; problems with importing lists.

To reduce the variables, I decided not to use imported lists and made a very short list manually through SNL. Next I went into my Pronto edit program (version 4.0.3) and removed all the code attached to hard buttons along with names of such buttons. That seemed to somewhat reduce the number of error messages.Next I deleted all devices except the device for my brand-new Sony DVD changer. With the other devices gone, compilation was so fast that it was difficult in SNL to read the errors. But I could see various messages about buttons already being in existence, such as some alphabet button. I next changed the name of the color directory so that SNL would not use them and created another list which of course took the default grayscale colors. Still got error messages during compilation. At this point I am so worn out that it's difficult to remember all the different permutations I tried. It seems that SNL might be objecting to the things that Pronto edit does not care about.

The SNL output can be opened up in Pronto edit and does run under the emulator despite the error messages given by SNL. But a file with all the other devices stripped out and with only a few dummy entries for disks is not of much use. Apparently during the compilation process SNL generates an error on a line and the more complex the files being used the more errors that accumulate. When I attempted to generate a file with all my devices and with slightly over 800 imported disks, lots of errors occurred but a file was generated. But when I tried to open it with Pronto edit, the Pronto program promptly quit. Clearly a corrupted file. Possibly there is something wrong with the list even though it looks fine in preview in SNL. Or a SNL error problem could become cumulatively worse the more lines of code that are processed. I think I have generated more than 50 different files with Pronto edit and tried to see what would happen with SNL. For example last night I tried deleting one device for each successive file to see if a particular device was causing the problems. Sigh.

I will appreciate any suggestions since I have no idea what to do. I guess what I should do is put my CDs into the changer according to the order given by my database and print out a paper list with numbers for the disks slots. Then I could refer to the paper list and punch in the appropriate number. But I have slightly over 1000 disks and had really look forward to using SNL.

I would be willing to purchase a commercial program that would work but do not know of any appropriate for the Pronto Pro. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

(Computer is a Dell Pentium, 512 megabytes RAM, many gigabytes of free disk space, operating under most current version of Windows 2000 professional.)

I saw this posting and it is me. Need Help

Wow .. ya know what is sad ? I'm a Systems Administrator .. I live for technology .. but i HATE programing ! :) I've been trying to get this list going for a bit and it seems hopeless because the htm file that comes with it is written with a differnt audience in mind :)

Can anyone give me a fairly basic 1, 2, 3 to get this going ? Assume for the moment that I dont have a premade DVD list, and will be using the new Sony 300 CD player ..

The Jump start package is on the way to the 2 guys above. Read the documentation.

Woodside,

You mention release notes. Did you also read the Jump-Start? I sent it to you.

Folder and Image Names are "CASE SENSITIVE" as documented in the release notes.

A folder named as the List name does NOT have to be in the Override folder. It can be present if you have images that are to be used for that list only.

Please read the HTML release notes from the SNL Download package about Basic and Advanced Imaging before making public assumptions that may confuse others. You can place common images (those used for all lists) in the appropriate 'Override' and the will be pulled in based on case sensitive names (also in the release notes).

The info is there, albeit technical that explains how the filenames and locations of images are selected.

With regard to errors about duplicate buttons, the CCF Compiler is complaining about buttons in a Panel being named with the same name or an empty string "". You can usually ignore these errors. See the preparatory steps in the Jump-Start .DOC file to get a better idea of how SNL works.

With regard to the 1000 disc problem. Let me guess. You want Track info as well. Well, you have 2 issues here. #1. The file you are creating most likely is larger than the memory size for the remote (1406KB for the RC5000i See FAQ for others). #2. When you try to open the file in PE or TSS, the program simply exists because you've blown the stack.

Either drop the tracks from the List or selectively only use track for specific discs.

In the email I send, I will also include an updated version of PEUpstack. Run this program against PE.EXE or TSS.EXE to modify it to support larger CCF files.

See Leo's web site mentioned in the release notes for info on this utility. The version on Leo's site is not compatible with the latest version of TSS or PE.

Woodside,

If you can't get this resolved with PEUpStack, email me a phone # and I'll walk you thorough what's going on. In the email, I need to know exactly what type of remote you are using as well as the availble memory it contains.

It would also help if you would send me your 'input' (read the jump start) and your SN*.XML files from the SN_Config folder where SNL is installed. Please zip all these files using winzip as my mailbox is half full already.

I think most of the issues you mention are user error and are related to you not understanding what's going on behind the scenes in SNL.

Many thanks for writing SNL and for helping people learn how to use it. I am going to take a break for a few days and then return to it after rereading all documentation. The button already exists errors have been confusing. As far as I know none of my panels have more than one button with a given name. I will recheck my Pronto file to be sure that I do not have any buttons that are just sitting on an obscure panel without any names or code in case that might be causing the problem.

Some of my problems apparently have been because the 1100 disk information file that I imported possibly contains codes other than letters. It originally was generated in askSam, a text oriented database. I exported from that program a comma delimited file and tried to import it into SNL. There is no track information. During compilation error after error would be reported until compilation failed. I tried importing the comma delimited file into Visual FoxPro and everything looked fine in that program. But when I tried opening up the comma delimited file with Microsoft Word, tabs were present. I deleted them but still have the same problems. I tried changing code pages to an MS-DOS code page, no success. Then in Visual FoxPro I created a dummy table with names for approximately 1000 disks and exported them into a comma delimited file. I was able to import that dummy file into SNL. Compilation succeeded, with various reports of duplicate buttons, and produced a file that Pronto edit could successfully open and that the emulator worked on correctly on the computer. I will have to generate the list of my disks all over again, probably in Visual FoxPro because that program manages to successfully produce a comma delimited file free of extraneous codes.

Again many thanks for SNL and your kind help. I do look forward to using the program very much.

woodside,

So it would appear that you are having problems in 2 areas.

1. You are having problems with buttons that may have no text on them in a Panel inside your original CCF. These buttons may be referenced by other panels via an alias. You can determine and isolate this easiest by simply using CCFTools to decompile your Input CCF (your original CCF) to a CSF file (text file editable with Notepad.exe) and then recompile this CSF file to a new CCF. During the compile step, these errors are reported. This is NOT a Supernudelist problem, but rather a warning reported by CCFDLL.DLL from CCFTools.

2. Don't use MSWord to edit CSV files. Many folks use MS Excel to load and save CSV files. I'm not sure what symbols/non-letters you have but I'd highly suspect that the CSV file you are using does not have strings enclosed in "" and may use tabs. Once again, Excel has always worked for me. If you want to email it to me zipped, I'll take a look and tell you exactly what checkboxes and numbers need to be selected in the Import Dialog Columns window.

Dear Lyndel:

I was not as clear as I should have been in the previous post. Microsoft Word was used only to look at a copy of the comma delimited export file produced by askSam. The export file contained my lists of disks and artists. After I began to suspect that the list of disks file might have characters other than code for letters, I decided to look at the file in Microsoft Word to see if I saw anything strange. Well, all I could find was tabs. I think that the file exported from askSam probably has some other characters in it that do not show in Microsoft Word. or possibly it did not get properly delimited with commas in some places. Hence my belief that I need to take the time to manually generate a new disk and artists list, and this will be done in Microsoft Visual FoxPro rather than askSam because I used to program with FoxPro (way back in the days of DOS)and trust FoxPro to produce properly delimited export files.

The probable second problem area is thus not the use of Microsoft Word -- never used to edit CSV-- but the probably corrupt exported list of disks and artists produced by askSam. I have not been able to figure out a way to clean up the file other then making another one inFoxPro.

Again many thanks. Gary.

Gary,

Either myself or Boobie can take a look at the CSV and give you pointers. If you'd like, email to either of us and we can most likely tell you what SNL is complaining about.
