Got my Pronto on Wednesday. Took it home and started programming it. When I tried to program my cable box remote it would not learn no matter what I tried. (Yup I put new batteries in the cable remote.) I just get the error buzz. The weird thing is that I took my old Marantz RC2000 and if I used it the Pronto learned the cable codes just fine. Now I can't sell my RC2000 or I'll not be able to tweak my Pronto! Any ideas?

Other that that one thing everything else seems great. Would be nice if manufacturers put seperate on/off buttons on their remotes though!

Bill,
I expect that the remote for your cable box may be sending codes that are perhaps slightly off in some way.
Once you have ProntoEdit software, you'll be able to save all of the learned codes in your computer as a device and therefore not have a need for your RC-2000 any longer.

Got mine from QAudio. Paid $349 but I would guess he is out by now. When I saw his post he said he had 12, when I ordered mine he had 3 left and that was on the 29th of December. Having a ball getting it set up just the way I'd like it. You'll wonder how you lived without it once you get one. I'm controlling the following with mine:

Denon 3200AVR
Toshiba 40" 16x9 Projection Screen TV
Sony 200 Disk CD player
Panasonic VCR
Cable Box
Toshiba DVD player

Bill,
I too had a hard time programing the codes of my ProScan DSS remote and was about to give up but then I tried something different. The Pronto would give me the FAILED sound almost immediately after I pressed the button on the ProScan remote so I knew it was getting something it didn't like. I then placed the remotes about two feet apart (instead of the usual 4-8 inches)on a table and bingo, this did the trick.

I hope this works fo you as well.

Sounds like a very high output remote that is "overdriving" the input sensor on the Pronto. This would cause distortion of the signal and likely cause the Pronto to disregard all together. The spacing approach is a good idea!

I think its very possible the cable box problem could be the same as the Elite code set. My Pronto would not learn from the factory Pioneer remote, but would learn all but the widescreen button from my RC-2000. Pioneer has since changed this code set to a more universal one. New Elite owners should not have as many problem as those prior to the 98-99 model year.

I think many of these code problems will be worked out as time goes on. Don't forget to try alternate universal remotes to teach the Pronto when a factory remote fails.

Just a thought. Why not try programming the Pronto with the RC2000?

Bill,
I programmed my Scientic Atlanta (21st Century) cable box the other day and had to hold the remote about 12" away from Pronto for it to understand the code. Seems Pronto doesn't like being yelled at by other lower life remotes:-)
Try it, could be the solution.
