having trouble learning some of the features not with the orignal device code 0054. For instance pip works only the first time u push the button but then u must do something else like the menu command before the pip button will work again. Same for the picture freeze and some of the menu buttons. Any ideas on what to do?

Also, can't find any device codes for the philips LX3500D home theater that was free with the TV, any ideas on a device code?

The reason that you are having problems with the learned buttons is that TV_0054 and most Philips equipment uses the RC5 protocol with a toggle bit. One bit alternates so the second or more of successive key presses will not be recognized.

To correct this problem assign the advanced codes=EFC's found here for the functions that you want. Make sure you follow the proceedures to delete the learned commands. IIRC, the learned commands will take precedence over assigned keys on most OFA remotes.

I don't know the code for your home theater but I would try Audio_1189 and if that doesn't work, Audio_1089. The numeral keys are the input commands.

To get the input commands for your TV and DVD you may have to temporarily setup DVD_0539 and assign EFC 018 to a DVD key (test it to make sure it works) and then key move that command to a key under the receiver device. Assign EFC 018 to a TV key and do the same thing. It is possible that with a very long key press that EFC 018 on a TV key will act as a discrete On for the TV.

Needless to say, building or buying a JP1 cable would make this process much easier. You still may need to do that if you can't make the home theater setup work with one of the receiver setup codes.

i can't seem to get most of the adv. codes to work......... magic button + code = adv. command, is this correct? some work but most don't, any ideas?

the radio shack people said to do a manf. reset then reenter the device codes because these commands/features should have worked with the appropriate device codes (i haven't done this yet). They didn't seem to say it with much conviction though;>)

Here a couple of threads that explain how to do a manufacturers reset and assign advanced codes on the 2116:

Did any commands using setup code Audio_1189 work on the HT unit?

yes, some of the tuner commands, but no DVD.....also, no volume and the on/off was at the "2" button.

Did you try Audio_1089, I suspect more commands will work for it. The problem with both 1089 and 1189 is that you cannot do keymoves from them without a JP1 cable because they use a two byte protocol. You can move keys onto keys in those setup codes from most protocols.

You CAN do key moves from setup codes that use two byte protocols. You CAN'T do advanced code key moves from those setup codes (without JP1).

You can key move any function that is assigned to a key by 1089 or 1189 onto any device_mode/key position regardless of what setup code you will be using for any non key_moved keys.

If you can find the functions for your device scattered among several setup codes and you have enough key move memory, you can bring all those functions together into one device mode without using JP1.

Of course, it's always much easier with JP1 and JP1 lets you use upgrade memory so you don't run out of key move memory.

BTW, any function that you never need to use twice in a row can be learned. As Jon explained, protocols that have toggle bits don't work when a learned function is used twice in a row.

final word:
i found out TV 1254 has just a few more features than 0054 and most of the adv. codes listed for 0054 don't work for this philips TV, but last nite i sat down and just manually put in magic button+000 thru about 300 (the commands seem to start repeating after 255) and wrote down the features that could be accessed this way. Most were available. So i guess the way to go is to put 0054 under the aux device and keymove the adv commands as required to TV device 1254. I'm guessing this is the most efficient use of memory, keymove versus learning commands? hopefully i'll have enough memory for the LX3500D home theater and some macro's. TY

They use strictly disjoint sections of memory so using one does not reduce the space available for the other. Key moves are enough smaller that the keymove area of memory is much smaller than the learning area of memory but still has capacity for a larger number of signals.

You don't really care about "most efficient use of memory". You may care about fitting the largest possible number of functions. To do that, you would use both key moves and learned signals, selecting between them based on factors such as the fact that you can't use an RC5 function twice in a row if it's defined by learning (but for most other protocols you can).

woodmeister,

i'm trying to program the advanced codes for input selection (AUX 1, AUX 2, ... AUX 5) for my Philips 60PP96012. do you have the list of the TV_1254 codes that you used? i haven't seen the TV_1254 on the www.hifi-remote.com site.

thanks a bunch!

The majority of setup codes beginning with 1***, do not accept advanced codes, because of the two-byte protocols. And what Woodmeister was refering to, is that the 1254 code has more commands that are mapped then can be found in code 0054.

I couldn't understand what Woodmeister tried and what results he got.

TV/0054 and TV/1254 on both the 15-2104 and the 15-2116 can "accept advanced codes". They aren't like most 1*** setup codes on most new models, which need JP1 for any advanced codes.

If Woodmeister meant that the published EFCs in 0054 didn't work but some other EFCs in 0054 did work (which is my best guess at his meaning) then that is exactly what Joe needs.

Otherwise, I should warn you that EFCs in TV/1254 on the 15-2104 act exactly like EFCs in TV/0054 of both the 15-2104 and the 15-2116, while EFCs in TV/1254 of the 15-2116 are different, including 64 commands that are not possible at all in TV/0054.

Joe, your initial posts on this subject were about the best asked question I've seen in these forums. The subject line had everything a subject line should have and the question was clear and concise and included all the relevent facts. I'm sorry that such a well asked question hasn't been rewarded yet with a good answer.

Joe,

Hopefully, some where in here is an answer.

These are the Pronto hex codes posted at the Philips website for some of the newer TV/Display's translated into EFC's for either TV_0054 or TV_1254 for the 2104 and TV_0054 ONLY in the 2116, as John has explained above.

These are all Philips RC5 protocol and there is a quirk in the way that protocol is implemented in OFA remotes. While there are 128 commands in RC5 for each device, each setup code can have up to 64 commands for up to three devices. TV_0054 has:

1) Device 0, commands 0 through 63
2) Device 3, commands 0 through 63
3) Device 0, commands 64 through 127

There are 256 EFC's, and in RC5 64 don't work, the other 192 correspond to the commands in 1) through 3)

Here are the translated commands. The first three digit number is device, the second is OBC, and the third is EFC. If the EFC says "not available" then without a JP1 cable and device upgrade, the command is not in this setup code. For TV_0054; device 3 commands, OBC's 64 through 127 are not available. Where I have denoted (Macro?), these were a series of commands under one button.

Keep in mind I don't have any Philips equipment and I don't know exactly what each of these models do but they appear to cover HDTV's, Projectors, and Plasma Panels. I have left the original labels from hte Pronto files:

Jon:

For the items in your previous post where the command is not available in the TV/0054 setup code, and you indicated an EFC of "Not Available" can you provide the EFCs so that the device and EFC could be used with MakeHex to generate classic pronto hex, assuming that is possible? Would I use rc5.irp?

In case it is relevant, I am trying to find discrete inputs for a Magnavox 32MD357B/37.

In the discrete codes subsection of the downloads section of www.pronto.philips.com, the latest files of discretes are .pcf files. I don't know how to extract the device, OBC, and EFC from a pcf file.

I have a utility to dump the codes out of a ccf file, but don't know how to get the codes out of a pcf file.

I can change the .pcf extension to .zip and get the ConfigEdit.xml file and open it. But I don't know how to interpret what I am seeing to pair up descriptions and device/efcs. If you could explain how you did that as well, I would appreciate it.

Or, would you be willing to provide the info from the latest (2004-2005) file for the inputs (AVn, Side Input, HDMI, etc.)? The back of the 32MD357B has AV1, AV2, AV3, PC/VGA IN, and HDMI 1, HDMI 2. There is also a Side AV Input. So any functions in the files with those labels might be the ones I am looking for.

Thanks!
