I think it's built in on the older European OFA remotes (7541 and 7560). It is Denon protocol, device 4.

A good place for "what make and model" questions is
[Link: hifi-remote.com]
which (not surprisingly) list VCR/0076 as just for Denon VCRs.

It might be an obsolete code, since OFA included it in several older remotes and no new ones.

With a JP1 cable you could add it easily to any JP1 capable remote.

I can't seem to get the 0004 commands to work on a OFA 6012w nor can I even use that number on my RS 15-2116. I have a Denon 3803, so the codes should translate well if the remotes would accept the codes.

Could those who have a remote that aren't usin JP1 connectors and have gotten use of all these codes please post what Kind of remote they are using?

Neither the 6012w nor the 15-2116 have any setup code 0004, so I don't know why you think the 6012w took the code (and then didn't work). It should be like the 2116 and not take the code.

I think the newest remote with 0004 is the 15-2104. It is out of production, but still available clearance priced $9.97 at a few Radio Shack stores.

The 15-2103 also has code 0004. It is a worse remote at a higher clearance price than the 2104 (so it should be easier to find).

The URC7800 and RCU810 also have 0004 and may not be too hard to find (but not at a good price).

Beyond those, the remotes with 0004 are pretty obscure. I suggest getting a JP1 cable and ugrading your 2116.

BTW, the four remotes I listed (and almost every obscure remote with 0004 and several more without 0004) all include 0160.

Has anyone had any success using these codes on a 2802 (or any '02 model for that matter):

Device= Audio 0004
131 004 MASTER VOL. PRESET1(0dB)
133 007 MASTER VOL. PRESET2(-20dB)
134 009 MASTER VOL. PRESET3(-40dB)

I'm trying to use them on my 15-2104 (to program into my MX-500) but haven't had any luck. Would really love to have these advanced codes for use in Macros, but I get the feeling they don't work with the older models (don't see them in Denon's posted IR codes on their website for the 2802).

Thanks!

You're right...the 6012W didn't take the 0004 code. I was thinking it did, but I assumed it did because the red light came on. After doing it again later, I realize it didn't light up like it should have (I think blink twice). So, it didn't take the 0004 code like I thought. I will be on the look out for a 2104 then.

Thanks for your quick reply. I did manage to find some of the codes (dimmer mainly) I wanted from the D-load section, so that will get me by if I can't find one.

I take it no one has tried the Volume preset codes on a X802 model denon?

I ran across this thread and quickly tried the Device 0004 -20 and -40 Main volume presets on my 3803. They worked like champs!

My own questions revolve around 2 issues...

1st, I'm terminally JP1 challenged. I have tried to figure this stuff out and I can only understand the basic backup stuff. Beyond that, I'm in serious trouble. That said, I thought that the Denon code 1104 for the new OFA remotes was the same as the older 0004 code. But when I tried the 1104 code, I did not have success. So I take it they are not the same? Or is my stupidity showing itself once again...

2nd, can someone create the Denon VCR 076 device for a OFA 8811 or a RS 15-1994 and e-mail me the file (AND tell me step by step how to get it into my remote?) I am dying to try out the individual soundfield modes.

Thanks for anyone's help!

Audio/0004 is Denon device 12
VCR/0076 is Denon device 4
Audio/0160 is Denon device 2
Audio/1104 is a combination of Denon device 12 and Denon device 8.

I'm not sure what you mean by "tried the 1104 code". I think you mean you tried EFC numbers in 1104 that work in 0004. That would fail because 1104 doesn't support EFC numbers at all. Without JP1, you can KeyMove from 1104 only using the predefined functions (the ones already assigned to keys). With JP1 you can KeyMove from 1104 any Denon function of any Denon device number, but that requires a fair amount of JP1 expertise and if you want more than a few of those KeyMoves using 1104 isn't the best JP1 method of defining them.

I skimmed through this thread a few times, but I can't tell one Denon model from another and I have no guess of which signals (in terms of Denon device number and EFC) you want.

I'd be glad to help, but I need more information and I think it would be better to move the discussion to the Yahoo JP1 group before getting too deep into JP1 instructions.

John: Thanks for the reply.

Yes, you're right that I tried the EFC codes for 0004 with my OFA 8811 set to device 1104. And as you've noted, they did not work. I still have an old RS 15-1994 lying around and I used it to try out the 2 volume preset codes for my Denon.

The codes I'm wanting to use are these (listed on the 1st page of this thread):
Device 4=VCR_0076
OBC EFC
129 006 WIDE SCREEN
130 008 SUPER STADIUM
131 004 ROCK ARENA
132 011 JAZZ CLUB
133 007 CLASSIC CONCERT
134 009 MONO MOVIE
135 005 MATRIX
138 136 THX ULTRA2 CINEMA
139 132 THX MUSIC MODE
140 139 THX SURROUND EX
141 135 DTS NEO:6 CINEMA
142 137 DTS NEO:6 MUSIC
143 133 DOLBY PL‡U CINEMA
144 074 DOLBY PL‡U MUSIC
145 070 DOLBY PL‡U EMULATION
147 068 DTS ES MATRIX
148 075 DOLBY DIGITAL EX

My problem, as has already been discussed, is that few (if any) OFA remotes support a Denon VCR code of 0076. I'm hoping that someone could "build" the code for a RS 15-1994 or OFA 8811 and help me to get it into one of my OFA remotes. (From there, I can teach it to a couple of other universal remotes I have.) I do have a JP1 cable and version 3.something IR (it does recognize my 8811) but I don't really understand how things work on the JP1 setup (other than basic backups.)

I was hoping maybe we could work it out here at rc.com or via e-mail rather than the JP1 e-group. I've given up trying to get help there. I don't want to offend anyone but I don't get the same warm, helpful feeling over there that is here at rc.com. (I knew I was in trouble the 1st time I went there and read the note to newbies about not asking beginners questions. Since these kinds of things don't come easy for me, I quickly gave up trying to use the e-group as a resource.)

Any help you can give would be truely appreciated!

The JP1 stuff is really easy if you don't let yourself get too sidetracks but the more complicated stuff that you can do with it.

As it sounds like you just want to add these codes to your JP1 remotes in order to transfer them to another remote (presumably an MX500), there's no need for you to bother with combo codes.

To create the Denon 4 codes (ie, like VCR/0076):
1. Open the KM spreadsheet.
2. Select "Denon" as the protocol.
3. Enter 4 as the device code
4. Select any device mode (let's call it VCR for now)
5. Enter any setup code (but's let's go with 0076 for now)
6. Select the remote you are using (ie, 15-1994 or URC-8811)
7. Select either OBC mode or EFC mode as you have both sets of codes available (let's go with OBC for now)

8. Now, switch to the Functions sheet in KM
9. Clear out all of the default function names, to avoid confusion.
10. Enter the function names and OBC codes that you listed.

(ie, ...
129 WIDE SCREEN
130 SUPER STADIUM
131 ROCK ARENA
etc)

11. Switch to the Buttons sheet in KM
12. Assign these functions to buttons using the drop down menu items. (eg, let's assign "WIDE SCREEN" to the "1" button, etc)

13. Switch back to the Setup sheet in KM. Here you'll see a block of hex code called "Device Upgrade", this is what you will need to cut & paste over to IR.exe. If you already have IR.exe up and Running, click on the "Copy" icon (which looks like two sheets of paper). This will transport you over to IR.exe

14. Connect your remote to the JP1 cable
15. In IR.exe select Remote > Download From Remote
16. Then click on the Devices table
17. Click on the "ADD" button
18. Press CNTL+V (ie, Paste) on your PC keyboard.
19. Click on the General tab.
20. Assign VCR/0076 to one of the device buttons (let's assign it to the VCR button)
21. Select Remote > Upload to remote
22. Disconnect your remote from the JP1 cable.
23. Insert the batteries (if needed) and close the battery compartment.
24. Take your remote to the room where your Denon is located.
25. Try it out (ie, press the VCR button, then press "1" and see if the "WIDE SCREEN" function is performed.

How's that?
Rob

Rob: Thank you very much!

I will work on this tonight and see if I can get the codes to work. And yes, you're right. I do intend to try to get these codes into an MX-500. If this goes well, I'll be able to post these commands (and a few others) here at the MX-500 IRClone files site for others to use.

Well, after screwing up the 1st time (I told everyone I am JP1 challenged!) I was finally able to build the Denon 0076 device into my OFA 8811 and test the codes on my 3803. SUCCESS SUCCESS SUCCESS!!! Since the 3803 doesn't do THX, I couldn't test those codes. But the others work!

Rob, thanks again for the help. Hats off too to jarmstrong and johnsfine!

These codes will be posted soon to the MX-500 file area. :)

I am trying to program some Denon 3801 device codes into my MX-500 remote. I am using a 15-2116 to get the discret codes programed. The main ones I am looking for are Multi, Direct, Auto, Matrix, 5/7 Channel. I have tried the some of the coeds above and they do not seen to be working. The Audio 0160 code worked. I had to use it in the AMP button but the codes for 115 (Auto( switched my receiver to anolog not Auto. The multi (219) did not work and some of the others did not work. Also the code 0004 did not work (I tried it in the AMP buttom). What am I doing wrong? I am fairly knowlege able in this but I am doing something wrong. Any help would be great.

I am looking for some BASIC reading to understand what I need to create a PC base program to transmit IR codes to my Denon AVR 5803, Denon DVD 2900, & Sony equipment.

Any suggestions as to where to start?

What sort of hardware will you be using to generate the IR signal and how directly will the PC program control that hardware?

Barry Gordon's document is the usual introduction (around here anyway) into both how information is represented in some of the simpler IR protocols, and how IR signals are represented in the common form of Pronto Hex:
[Link: remotecentral.com]

The next thing to look at if you want to create your own IR signals is the .IRP files used by a few of the existing programs that create IR signals. My MakeHex program is distributed with many .IRP files.
