Denon has begun publishing the codes for controlling some of their current products. cf. the Denon website. Is there a program to convert these codes to EFC's?
Thanks

Craig,
I answered you post over in the discretes forum but I am sure people here will also be interested. Give me a specifc Denon model that you are interested in and I'll translate that one. Then you can test it and we can post the methodology.
Good find.

Craig and Jon, With all the people using Denon devices, it would seem to me a worthwhile endeavor for a Denon afficionco to get all the denon codes from them, and convert the whole lot to useable UEIC/RS form (EFC's) I'm not sure, but I do know that ccf2EFC would convert ccf files to EFC format, and I would think that there should be a reverse-logic program to convert EFC's, then, to CCF form for pronto users. If they are posting all the codes for all their units, I'm sure we can find a way to make both pronto and UEIC/RS remote users happy as a lark. :) Jim

Jon -- I don't have the latest models of what they show, but can certainly test most of the codes from something like the AVR-2801 or 3801. I have a AVR-3300. Give me few EFC's and I will try them out!!
BTW -- The codes are on the Denon website. Home audio, products (if I recall correctly) Anyhow, the section with all the current product specs, etc. also ahs these codes (in "Sharp" format, whatever that means)
Thanks for your interest.

Craig,
Here they are for the AVR-5803. The conversion isn't hard if you know the Denon protocol but the process is a pain. First the pdf files take a download of Japanese characters from Adobe (otherwise the fonts overrun the data). Then it is tedious editing process.
Finally Denon is inconsistent in how they display the data, so there is no universal formula that I can post on how to do it--again not hard just a tedious process with at least three vaiants to what the data means.
Let me know if these work. There appear to be three devices to get all the commands. The VCR_0076=Device 4 is not in all remotes so that may take a device upgrade:

Jon -- I cannot test all the codes, as my AVR-3300 is missing some of the parameters available to the 5803. For example, I don't have all the Zone1/Zone2 functions. Also, my RS 1994 doesn't have the VCR-0076 code - and the OFA 8811 doesn't seem to want to send advanced codes???.
Otherwise, things worked just great, with all of the applicable OBC's between 195 and 242 working in the 0160 mode. In the 0004 mode OBC's 160, 193-120 and 215-223 all work just fine too.
It looks like this is the definitive list for Denon AVR's, tho we'll have to see if the Device 4-0076 codes work as well.
Thank you very much - shouldn't this list be posted somewhere else for future reference -eg. Rob's site?

Hi everyone. My Denon is a combined Amp/DVD/Tuner/Dolby Digital/DTS/PL2 unit, the ADV-700. I was hoping the Device-4 0076 codes would work on it, so I could switch quickly between PL2 Cinema and PL2 Music. Hmpf. They don't on mine.
However, I wish to report that one of the Denon DVD/CD codes (CD-0003 on One for all) operates an amplifier control on my unit. EFC=120 selects tone controls in turn (ie Tone Defeat, Bass, Treble, SDB On/Off, etc.), and then you press left or right cursor to adjust.
This bit for JP1 users only:
If you are using a JP1 connector, and ir.exe with the hacked Denon combiner, the first byte of the Hex code is E8 instead of C8 or B8. In this case, "E8 57".
If the VCR_0076 code does work on anyone's unit, I suggest you try D8 as the first byte of the Hex Code.

I believe that this DVD player is made by Panasonic and that would be setup code DVD_0490 or DVD_0632 On = EFC 022 and Off = EFC 026. These are also the same as the Pronto hex posted under Denon discrete codes for DVD.

Does anyone know what the format is for Sharp IR codes? It seems as Denon products are on the Sharp IR protocol.
NEC uses the following format: Device Code - Device Code Compliment - Function Code -Function Code Compliment with a discrete lead in and lead out burst pair.
Sony uses the following format: Function Code - Device Code with a discrete lead in burst pair and the lead out burst attached to the last burst pair in the Device code.
So something along these lines for the Sharp format is what I'm looking for.
Thanks Brian

Brian,
You'd have better luck by NOT BURYING this question in an existing thread, especially since it is only BARELY related to Denon's.
If you open a new thread, Jon Armstrong, or Rob Crowe, or John Fines, all protocol "experts", might have a better chance to see it.
Most of the known protocol forms have already been documented at the JP-1 group.

Despite it being burried, I noticed. The protocols are documented in
If you know NEC internals already, you probably can figure out the notation by comparing what Jon wrote there about NEC to what you know. If the notation still makes no sense, one of Barry Gordon's documents at RemoteCentral explains the IRP notation. I think Barry also documented Sharp/Denon protocols in one of his documents here (but Jon's documents covers more ptotocols and was asier for me to find).

On my 1803, and RS 15-1994, most of the codes that I tried worked, except for power! I can get the PowerON and PowerOFF to work, but the power toggle won't. Any advice? Maybe I have to figure out how to program a toggle on the 1994.
Cheers
