Hi,

Hopefully the subject says it all.

I've owned several Harmony remotes and played around with the Pronto's and considering buying a Nevo SL. I'm sure many of you may have investied in the SL having used another remote for a good few years.

Could you let me know what the positives and negatives are about the remote ?

From what I've read in the press so far, this is the best peice of kit you can buy. But I'd like to hear that from medium/long term users who are also trying to acheive WAF!

It would also be good to hear about what you don't like about the SL.

Thanks

I personally love it.

I mainly use it for my AV setup, but have it tied into my Girlfriends PC for music use, and have had no issues. But I mainly use my apple and Airport express to stream music if Im going that route. BUt I've had no issues with the Nevo at all, I love it. As long as your not like most people, and expect it to be a portable computer, you'll love it. A good installer can make it do wonders.

hey sorry i missed this thread!!

i LOVE my nevo but dont use Wifi so so cant really offer any input as far as that goes. but from what i've read there are some issues.

this is my first high end remote, my last being an 8 device hard key universal with learning ability and 3 macro's. so i had a basic idea of what i was getting into. i was very intimated about the programming factor of the Nevo and the Pronto (i also was on the fence between these 2 products) but was pleasantly surprised how easy Nevostudio was to navigate. if you have any experience with windows than you should find it a breeze. from what i have read and heard pronto program isnt nearly as easy to navigate.

i really love everything about the nevo from its one handed ergonomics to the customization and flexibility of the LCD screen. it also sits very well on the arm of your chair or what have you making it a console type remote if you will, as the buttons are very well defined and spaced making them easy to press. also the plastic casing on the back has an almost rubbery feel so the unit stays put. it also sits well on a hard surface as there are little rubber feet on the back aswell. it just feels like a well thought out high quality unit in all. the pronto on the other hand i found fealt i little heavy and quite awkward to use with only one hand.

my only negative with the Nevo is its power consumption. even with the wifi off you will only get about 12hrs use. normally this could be a few days with the average user but i had a good veg day the other weekend where my wife was up at about 8am watching the tube, then i took over at about noon. well by 9pm it shut down and i had to put it on its charger. forcing me to crack out my old remotes - aaaarrrrrgghh!!! lol. however it does charge fast, so i was able to use it again 1/2 hr later. since then if i'm going to be using at all day i make sure i place it on the cradle when i get up to get a drink or what have you, and no problems since.

if i were going to set up wifi i would just set up the cradle next to my viewing seat, problem solved. i would actually have it set up that way now just cuz the cradle is really cool looking, but with little hands in the house i like to have it out of reach when i'm not there!

let us know what you decide. if you choose the nevo i would be glad to email you my configuration.

-Christian.

Not sure about the battery life comments. I get about 3-4 days battery life without Wi-Fi on, just as an IR remote. I love it and think it is the best remote out there right now.

I replaced my Pronto 7000 with the Nevo SL in July and have never looked back. It is the best overall consumer remote out there right now.

Do you have the 1.1 update? That extends battery life by leaps and bounds when using WiFi. Not using Wifi mine will go a couple weeks of normal use.

Stealth,

Did you also do the firmware upgrade? You might have wi-fi on? You have to change it in NevoStudio and then download. Carl is getting some exceptional battery performance, which I have not seen.

You also may want to review your battery saving settings. Turn screen off after 1 minute and let the Nevo sleep after 5 minutes.

yeah i was having MUCH worse issues previous to changing the settings in nevostudio as you mentioned. as of a month ago the wifi is off and the settings are exactly as you advized. now keep in mind my full days use is tinkering with the thing constantly for practically 12hrs straight.... i'm a bit of a chronic tweaker, and also just like flipping the pages and ooing&aaaing over it -lol. so when you say 3-4 days, how much actual user time goes in per day?

My average day consists of an hour or two of tv watching, so definitely not a 12 hour day.

as i suspected, so doing the math you're probably not far off from where i'm at. as like i say my screen was lit(not literally but almost) for 12-14hrs. i personally didnt see it as a bad thing as i wouldnt expect more life from any other juice drinking device such as this!

yes, just like Carl, maybe 3-4 hours a day, maximum. The rest of the time it is sleeping and snoooooorrrrring. I hate when it snores....LOL.
