I recently purchased a home that came with a home theater which includes a Nevo SL. I'm in the process of getting familiar with the home theater, getting it configured the way I want, etc. I went to mynevo.com and it appears that my Nevo SL was never registered, so I have been unable to get the NevoStudio software from the website. Does anyone have a suggestion for getting the Nevo Studio software?

Thanks!

Hi,

Contact the old owner and find out where they purchased the remote. Then call that store/installer.

The home was a builder's model who has gone out of buisiness, but I was able to track down the company that built the home theater in the basement. They sounded reluctant to give me a copy of the software and indicated they would check with the owner of the company to see if it was "OK". I thought that a copy came with each remote and that it might be rightfully mine, but I can really tell from looking at UEI's policy on mynevo.com.

If I can't get a copy of the software, it looks as though I will have to pay a call out charge to the company who installed the home theater everytime I want to change something on my home theater. As someone who likes to do this stuff myself, it looks like my best options are to switch remotes, or buy another remote from a different source that includes the Nevo Studio software (a hate to buy another remote just to get a copy of the software).

Any other ideas? Is the company that the remote was purchased from obligated to give me a copy of the software?

I hate to give up on the Nevo SL, I've never used (or programmed) one, but it looks like there are a lot of really cool features and customizable options, not to mention the fact that an expensive remote would be going to waste. Right now it's a door stop.

The remote may have come with software (i dont know) but it doesnt matter because the remote provider had a contract with the builder of the home. Not you. Same with doorknobs and cabinets. Unless there is a paragraph in the contract between you and the builder you bought the home from.. the warranty and any promises are void (as far as i know).

Before you pay to have someone come out to make changes..

You have 2 issues. Warranty and software. IMO you should bite the bullet.. contact the home theater company. Have them install and program the same model remote and provide the software for it. If they wont provide the software.. find a company who will. Now you have your software, you have a remote with a warranty and you have a back up remote. Or maybe try buying an extended warranty from them.

Im mentioning this because it would suck to pay a couple hundred bucks to have changes made.. then have the remote fail 2 days later. I know it sucks but the same thing could have happened with a garage door opener or a dish washer.

No. The company that sold the remote is not obligated to provide software. Thier contract/deal was with the builder who hired them.

I dont know if the builder you purchased the home from is legally responsible for providing the software (i doubt it) but you might have been able to work that into the contract on the purchase of the house. I doubt you will be able to force them to provide the software.. and even if you were able to handle this in court.. the fees would total more than replacing the remote.

How is it a doorstop? Was there no programming done? Was all of the AV gear removed from the house? Or are you saying its a doorstop because you cant control new products you want to add to the system?
