Probably an absolute newbie question but I dare ask it anyway:
Because I could not find my Musical Fidelility X-Pre V3 on MyNevo’s database, I use learned commands. Strangely though some buttons (eg volume up) work only once, that is when I press volume up a second time the amp does not respond. If I then hit volume down it does and it will then also respond again to volume up – once. This happens with commands such as volume up and down but also next track etc ie “incremental” commands. I am pretty sure that is something basic I have not understood. Thanks for your help and patience.

Hi,

Assuming it is not a bad learn.

It sounds like an "a/b" style remote. They are not very common anymore. The idea is button push 1 sends "vol up (a)" button push 2 sends "vol up(b)" Both are a valid IR codes.

The only way I have found around this is to:

Lock yourself in a dark room, NO INTERUPTIONS!
Learn every "A" code.
You do this buy learning a button, then point the donor remote away from the learning remote and bush a button (this will send a "B" code).
Now learn another button (back to "A" code).
repeat over and over.

If you mess it up you need to start from scratch.

Now you need to find a button or code that has no function. You learn its "B" code.
After every button press you would send the "B" code.

So every button is a macro!

This is not great when using volume but it is the only way I know how to get around this. The Q50 and S70 have an A/B feature.

Did you try the xray codes in the online section?

Try contacting Nevo. They may be able to help.

Thanks for the very quick reply. I'll try and confirm whether I get it to work. I'll also need to try again whether it's not a bad learn and also again the online section for the codes (perhaps try out some more).

Just wondering though about the a b thing. If I press volume up a third time I should be back to A, right?, and the amp should then react, which unfortunately it doesn't.

This is very interesting to me. I have a fan that I have been trying to control (through all learned commands) and I get very similar behavior.)

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, every button has an "A" and a "B" command that it sends, and you only want to learn the "A" commands. But then in the Nevo, each button push needs to send the appropriate "A" command followed by a null "B" command. Am I getting that straight? I don't really get what the "B" commands are even for. Also, what do you mean when you say the Nevos have an A/B feature?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'd love to understand this to be able to deal with it whenever it arises. In the case of my fan, some buttons are toggles, for example, the SPEED button cycles the fan between low, medium, and high speeds. Does that scenario still lend itself to the A + (null)B macro solution?

Try this..... your volume up needs to be a 2 step macro, the volume up command and any ir command that does doesn't control that device. Your vol up just needs to see 2 codes with each button push. Do the same with the vol dn. These are basically the same directions as the previous poster, just explained without the a/b.

Good luck

I still have the basic question: what are the "B" commands even for? In the device's original remote, every button push presumably sends two commands (A & B), but apparently the device only reacts to the A command. What's the function of that second command?
