Anyone have the 4308 or 2500BTCI serial codes already put into a NPJ file for the S70????

The receiver codes are very simple, and you can get them on Denon's website. The 2500 protocol is completely different and takes a little more work, but it's not difficult once you get how it works, just a little more time-consuming. Are you having trouble with them, or just hoping somebody else has already done the work for you? :)

The latter. If this is already available in a job file, then I would love to get a copy of it. I don't have a specific customer requirement for it, but I do have a customer that has these devices and would love to do an "in-service" comparison of their speed and functionality. I figured I would experiment.

Hi,

I tried to use Serial Control on the 3808 yesterday, but it didn't work. The Denon uses 4 pins but the nevo serial module uses 3. The only extra one denon uses is pin 1 common GND, i'm guessing if i make up a cable and connect pin 1 to the other ground it should work. Any one else have the same problem/solution?

Thanks.
Barry

I have a Denon processor, which appears to share its serial protocol and hardware with at least the 5308 and 4308. I can't speak for certain regarding the 3808 since I haven't seen its documentation, but I'd be kind of surprised if it were different from the others.

The Denon is one of the few components I have where I did NOT need to make any kind of adapter for the Nevo serial module. It has a female connector where the Rx and Tx pins are already reversed (from the serial module's pin layout), which is what you need. Pin5 should be ground on both, so you defintely don't want to re-wire that to Pin 1.

My guess is that your commands may not be correct. It's very important for every parameter to be configured correctly. Double-check all those, here's what my Denon uses:
Baud = 9600
Data bits = 8
Parity = None
Stop Bits = 1
Flow Control = None
Format = ASCII
Universal delimiter = \r

Be sure to include the universal delimiter. (Put it into the delimiter box, no need to write it after each individual command.) Also, double-check your port assignment in the NC-50 and confirm that it's working. (Should see green lights flash on that port when you send a commend to the 3808.)

So, for example, the Power On command PWON will actually look like PWON/r to the receiver.

If there's still trouble with it, maybe you could link the protocol document and we could go from there.

Hi,

A good test is to connect the nevo serial cable to your computers com port and use hyperterminal to listen to the nevo (or any other controler).

If what you see in HT is correct then you know something else is not set correctly.

Ok...I am crying a river here. Somebody post a PRJ or a library file with these commands for us?

So you want someone else to do all the work? If you don't understand RS232 - use IR.

Droo: I think you are missing the point. There is no sense in doing work if someone has already done it (why re-invent the wheel is the expression, I believe). Just like everyone here posts files and configurations for others to share so that we can expedite the work and all make more money. And if you read my earlier post, you would see that I cannot actually see any benefit to using 1-way IR and therefore cannot justify the time to play with it. However, if someone had some code that I could review, maybe I would have an epiphony on why 1-way Serial is worth the time.

And as far as an understanding of basic serial commands, I ran a serial based bulletin board system with over 256 attached serial modems for many years, coded by yours truly. I believe that qualifies me with a basic understanding of serial based commands.

Nevertheless, if you cannot help, please feel free NOT to comment in a rude fashion as it's neither courteous or constructive. Thanks.

Hello guys - I have to apologize. I made a rude comment the other day and I shouldn't have. I had a bad day and took it out Lee. I feel bad. I have myself built RS232 Nevo Files and shared them with people who have requested them as well as posted them on Nevo's site.

Again, Lee I'm sorry. No hard feelings I hope.

Absolutely no hard feelings: hopefully you are having a better day today. Unfortunately, I was also having a bad day, simultaneously so it was a perfect storm of "badness."

All is well (except with the DOW(n).

Because apparently, I'm sadistic and, according to my ex-wife, always have to find the negative. However, the good in that is that my shrink is happy. See how wrong she was??? LOL
