Everything on my Nevo SL was working great in the past 4wks since I have had it up until today. The unit locked up on me to a point where I no longer can press the reset button for it to reboot.

I turned the unit off and backed on where it would proceed to boot to the Nevo logo screen showing a red progress load bar. After the bar is filled across the screen the unit would sit there and then the display will go dim, but I can see the faint logo screen where it hung. The only way to clear this screen is to turn off the unit again.

Does anybody know how to recover from this? I tried using the reset button again, turning off the unit repeatedly, or even hooking up my USB (which is unresponsive). When I put the NSL on the charge unit, the blue light is lit so it is recharging too. The unit was fully charged before this mishap.

Any help or recommendations would be appreciated. I'll probably be contacting support if there is no quick remedy for this. Just when I started to really like this product something like this happens. Anyone have similar experience?

Update: I was able to get into a special mode on my NSL by turning it on and holding the backlit key. The screen comes up with "Nevo v27 and USB Download". Anyone know how to get this working? I thought it would be able to use my Activesync but no go. Apparently this is a special menu feature that requires a driver that is not included on the regular CD.

Hi Koni,

I had the same problem when I was using firmware version 1.0. Do you know if your NevoSL has still version 1.0 (hopefully)?

You need to update to version 1.1 (or re-update in case you already used 1.1). Instructions on how to do this can be found on www.mynevo.com, it describes the USB download mode. You need to register as an installer via NevoStudio to be able to do this.

I was able to get my NevoSL up and running again via this update and also the problem that caused the lockup should be solved in 1.1.

Success,

Jan

Hi Jan,

Just a few days ago I was planning on updating to 1.1, but didn't get around to it because everything was working and you know the ol' saying if it ain't broke don't touch it. I guess I should've ignored that in this case.

Unfortunately, I'm an end-user so I don't have access to those instructions on mynevo.com. Can anyone forward me the instructions or post it here. I'm sure others may find it useful in the future if this is a known issue.

Thanks for the response, at least I know there is hope and I may not have to return the unit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

-Tony

Hi Tony,

If you have NevoStudio installed you should be able to register and download the NevoStudio 1.1 update afterwards (this also includes the firmware and the update description). If this is not possible then you need to contact your dealer and ask him for help. It is not an option for me to send you the entire software update.

Hi Jan,

I have already downloaded the NevoStudio 1.1 update. The problem I have is that I can't get my NSL to be recognize by my ActiveSync due to the boot up problem I am running into described earlier. I just need instructions on passing the bootup problem in order to update my NSL through NevoStudio. My NSL is recognized in the USB Download screen, but it is requesting a specific driver. So close, but yet so far.

Hi Tony,

If you have NevoStudio 1.1 installed then the update instructions should be already on your PC. On my system it is located in the 'C:\Program Files\Nevo\NevoStudio\Help' directory and the file is called 'NevoSLDeviceUpdate ReadMe.pdf'.

Hi Jan,

Well I finally figured this whole mess out. You are right, if I had the 1.1 installed, I would've received the instructions that tell you how to reset the NSL lock up I was experiencing. As I mentioned earlier I never did the update, so the PDF file was not in that directory and I couldn't proceed doing the update, because my NSL was not syncing up to my computer due to the USB driver that was missing.

Eventually, I figured out the driver error I was receiving required the USB driver that came with my NSL. After I got the syncing issue resolve it was easy to go to NevoStudio to download the 1.1 instructions that basically told me how to reset my lock up issue.

Bottom line is that it would have been nice if Nevo provided those instructions when you updated your Nevostudio or included that on the CD. Because if you had the syncing issue such as I and never updated to 1.1 you would have never received the PDF file that resolved this issue.

Nevertheless, thanks for providing me some guidance that helped me figure this thing out. When I talked to my reseller their response was to simply send the unit back to them.
