Hi,

I wonder if someone can offer me some advice / guidance...

My Nevo S70 has recently started to shut down / reboot during use. This occurs whilst using it with different applications, ie TV, DVD ... it's almost as if it gets confused and shuts down.

I have checked that the back plate is secure and that the "contact switch" in the battery area is securely pressed down and so discounted that known issue.

I have also tried reloading the programme etc all to no avail.

For you information the S70 is used with Nevo connect NC50.

Any ideas / advise ??

Thank you in advance.

Peter,

The unit is only a year old and is appearing to be holding its charge 1-2 days (full to empty), however, good idea, will source a new battery...anything is worth a try.

Any ideas on where to buy the battery in the UK....have found one outlet but they are charging £100 for a battery!

might just be worth checking the white plug where the battery connects to see if it is pushed in firmly & also check the red & black wires coming out of the battery as i have seen these get broken before if they get snagged on the battery cover

It will be the reset switch.

It has more than likley worn out the contacts within the switch.

It is an easy fix.

Open the remote (do so at your own risk)

Remove the switch.
Solder a bypass wire. See image.

S70 bypass

This should fix the issue.

This is not a sanctioned repair. Just something my tech mate helped me with.

Having the same issue, my S70 is rebooting all the time. It seems to be something with the wiring, because most of the time if I take the battery door off, the remote will shut off or reboot. Any ideas?

That is normal. It is a feature to try and protect the eprom.

There is nothing wrong with the wiring.

The above modification will fix your rebooting problems.

Has anyone (other than Syd) tried Syd's fix? My S70 is doing the same thing, but I want to be sure this is the problem before I open it up. Every time it reboots, I try to shake the remote and press the same button(s) that caused the reboot to try to duplicate the problem, but have not been able to recreate it yet... Other than when it randomly reboots.

I found the issue with mine to be with the plunger switch that turns off the unit when you open the battery door. I put a piece of paper on the part on the battery door that pushes it in, and all good

@jdgping, this seems to have solved the problem for me too. I wonder if this is the same switch that Syd shorted out with a jumper.

@syd, you mentioned that you removed and installed a jumper across the reset switch. I'm guessing you mean either the on/off switch or the battery cover plunger switch??? I imagine the pinhole reset button is a normally open switch, so I can't imagine you would short that. If you mean the plunger switch, that would imply that you are permanently disabling that functionality; and if you are permanently disabling that functionality (and putting some paper over the plunger switch also solves the problem), couldn't I just superglue the switch in the down position? That would avoid the possiblity of opening the remote and damaging the board.

Am I the only one that thinks that this is a really annoying defect, even if this was only a $100 remote? I mean one could buy a used car (that doesn't turn itself off) for less than the cost of an S70, right? And I wouldn't have to "install" a piece of paper to keep the car on.

Hi,

Sorry, You are correct. It is the reset button (plunger switch)

Glue may fix it but what I found was that the metal spring/contact within the button fails so a physical bypass wores best. The paper trick will only work for a short time.

I noticed. It seems after a few days it still resets. Guess I'm going to open her up. Is there any threads out there on how to safely open the S70? I searched and could only find a thread on the Q50.

Damn... It appears the Nevo S70 screws are type Torx T7 tamper-proof/security screws, but the set I have are drill bits for 1/4" socket and won't reach the head of the screw. Can anyone confirm that this is a size/type of the screw? Syd???

I finally mustered up the courage to open up my S70 and implement this "fix". Pleased to say that in a week, it hasn't restarted once.
One note, I believe they ended up being torx t6 security screws. I only had to pull the two screws in the battery compartment, pry the remote open starting from the bottom working my way to the top, and disconnect the speaker wire to work on it. Don't forget to test before you close it up.

Thanks Syd.
