I received an e-mail from Universal Remote Control Inc informing me that the long awaited shipment of the MX1000 had began. I called them and the swear that the shipment to my distributor will go out Thursday. Based on this I am taking advance orders for those of you that want to be among the first to get this fantastic remote (I have actually tried it). There is an incentive, for first time buyers I offer 10% off your order and free shipping. The 10% discount offer is ending at the end of next week. So for those of you who waited patiently, order yours now for a fantastic price. www.homeautomationnet.com Thanks Bill

Considering HTM's history, we're being a little naive here, aren't we Bill? They only promised about a dozen different ship dates over the last 18 months, and have completely blown every one of them out of the water. Why would you believe them now? By the way, http://www.hometheaterremote.com/ has a much better price of $225 with free shipping vs your $290 with 10% discount. Maybe we can get a price war going for a remote that doesn't exist!

My price is not $290 it's $279 less 10% puts it down to $250 shipped. I agree it is kind of hilarious fighting over prices on vaperware. First shipments are kind of light and I get my supply one of the biggest chains in the states so we shall see who ends up with stock to sell. I did actually use one of these so they cant be that far off, I see the history of this product introduction so I understand everybody’s skepticism. I felt when a company goes through the trouble of putting out an announcement that they are shipping and I call them and they confirm it's true it is kind of silly to piss of your dealers. We shall all see! Bill www.homeautomationnet.com

We have received the first batch of backorders of the MX1000. They will be filtering thru slowly, but they have arrived. We expect our backorders to be filled by the beginning of November. But expect them to be very tight thru December. We don't know what to expect for new orders, but they have arrived! www.hometheaterremote.com also known as www.universalremotecontrol.com. Finally! They are so fresh that we haven't had time to play with one yet.

Chris: Thanks for the info. Now that the vapor has FINALLY begun the transformation into matter, would it be possible for you to give those of us who have been on your backorder list for some time a general idea of where we stand in the pecking order. I've now left three voice messages or e-mails over the past month or so but have not yet received any reply. I'm order # 99900-0411189357, and would just like to know if I'm near first, middle or last. Perhaps others would also be interested. Thanks for any info. Kimo

I'm interested in if the remotes are shipping with computer software or is that to be supplied 'at a later date'?

I'd have to guess "at a later date".

Called Universal Remote Control today and they said Homeautomationnet.com and universalremotecontrol.com are not authorized resellers of the MX-1000 remote control and said they had not sent anu to them to sell so they must be getting them from a transhipper and as soon as they find out who it is they are going to be cut off so that screws it for all of us. Thanks alot you greedy sh--s.

Huh? If you called, you must be at fault... eh? Even still, I'm sure authorized sources will have good prices once they're out.

What does this mean for the people who ordered from these web sites?

In response to Bill T.'s comments. Typically when you buy something on the Web, the companies don't get it directly from the manufacturer, they get their products from wholesale distributors. The manufacturers do sell directly to some companies as well as to dozens of distributors. Any ligitimate company that buys from a distributor is an authorized reseller of that product. While Bill might have called them and they did not sell them directly to Homeautomationnet.com or Universalremotecontrol.com, that doesn't mean that they ligitimately didn't get them from a distributor. And I fail to understand how that "screws it" for all of us. Doesn't make sense. Oh well.

This is not real hard to understand. Manufactures sell to distributors that have agreed not to sell there products over the internet. Those greedy distributors sell to internet sites that are not authorized to sell the products that the distributor has sold them. They do this so they can make a quick buck by selling lots of products at lower margin rather than fewer products at a higher margin. The manufacturer gets upset because his product that he feels is worth $290.00 is being sold for $225.00 - Now his product isnt worth $290.00 any more it's worth $225.00. So now he tries to find out what distributors have been transhipping there products to internet sites, cuts them off and that makes the products harder to find.

Reminds me of another issue I heard about... a few years back here in Canada a large department store went bankrupt -- and had a sale off everything, starting at 20% but growing up to 70% near the end. However, the perfume companies did not want to see their product on sale at such discounts -- they felt it cheapened their image. So, rather than have that happen, they actually bought all their merchandise back from the store at full retail (not wholesale) price.
But no company likes to see their product sell for 1-5% above cost. It provides no incentive for the retailer themselves to provide support to their customers.
