I have a couple devices (Sanyo DVD player for one) that have commands show up in the LCD area that do not show up under the commands shown for the device when using the software. For example I have two buttons wasted on 'Power On' and 'Power Off' that I'd like to get rid of in favour of something more useful (like Power Toggle) but they don't show up anywhere for me to delete them. Any ideas how to find these?

You need to clarify whether you're talking about Device mode or Activity mode. For Device mode there is an option to change the button configuration under the device itself. You can delete commands from there by renaming them to blanks or removing the command that is sent from the drop down box.

The extra commands don't show up in either device mode OR command mode. I know what you are talking about with removing extra commands and the ever fun task of reordering them but in this case the commands are on the remote device mode and not anywhere in the software when looking at devices or activities.

While we're on the subject, I know that all commands for a particular device are displayed together for a particular activity (no matter what order they seem to appear) and that all commands for a device overlap onto each activity (which is a real pisser when you need your tuner to only have EQ options for music activities and Surround options for movies) but how about this: Can you at least change the order of these devices so their group of commands are shown first on the LCD screen and not on page 2.

1) I think you can fix a "phantom" command in device mode by simply editing the device button mapping. Just rename a label, click done, update the remote.

2) The activity commands are re-grouped by device priority. On the 6xx series, the device in the left column has top priority. The next device (in the next column from left to right) has 2nd priority and so on. On the 880, you will have to figure this out yourself.
Workaround 1: If you need a command from a lower priority device to be grouped with the ones from a top priority device, simply add a "bogus" (a do nothing) command in the top priority column along the same row (line), or
Workaround 2: Teach the command to the top priority device.

1. the phantom commands were fixed the way you said! Thanks.

2. For the 880 the order of the 'commands by device' in my Watch DVD activity are:
Sanyo DVD - the first device from the left, then
AV Receiver - the one on the right!??, then
TV - the device in the middle.

The only possible reason I can think of for this could be the fact that the TV doesn't have any 'hard' buttons listed so the order is based on those buttons first and then the custom button label buttons below (for which my TV has some listed).

EDIT: I just tried adding a command to the TV in the top 'hard button' section but the rest of the custom commands still came AFTER the receiver which was listed last...

I did put in a dummy command on same line and that worked, but for one only (a different dummy command is required for each command). My dummy command from the DVD player was actually not that dumb either and I had two things happening at once. How can I find DVD player commands that are actually not doing anything? For now, I taught the 'missing' TV commands commands to the DVD player and selected them. Works too but I little more time consuming.

So for the 880, it sounds like the device priority order is: Master Activity Device, Sound device, Display Device. The Master Activity Device is based on the Activity Type. Examples: Tuner Device for a Watch TV type, Player device for a Play DVD type, and so on. Harmony changed the device priority order on the 880 when they introduced it without the Sound and Picture buttons. I don't know if this new priority order has propagated to the 6xx series since I have not updated my 659/680 in a very long time. I am still waiting for them to fix the ASSERTION bug on the new "Set Up Favorite Channels" ported from the 880.

In the "Custom Button Label Area" (LCD), a command name can only be used once per column (slot). This limitation applies only within the "Custom Button Label Area". Workaround: Teach the command under a slightly different name.

To find dummy commands, just try them all in device mode. You can also teach some from the OEM remote of an obsolete/unused device.

Thanks for the response. That's what I'll do.
It's sure good to have guys like you around to make up for all the weaknesses in the Logitech software!
