from the pronto 2000 manual:
"Recharging Problems
The indicator light flashes · Check if the contacts on the recharging dock are clean and free of obstructions. · Make sure the Remote Control lies properly on the dock. · Make sure the battery pack is installed properly in your Remote Control"
so i guess what i meant to say is that it's trying to charge...........oops.

you could always try programmergeek's method and keep dropping it from "three feet onto a carpeted surface".

but all that was doing was making the remote reboot. The best way is to drop it so that the screen hits the corner of the coffee table

true about the reboot.........but there are solutions cheaper than a new remote to your choice as well.
perhaps if he were to insert a metallic pin under any two of the charging contacts on the bottom of the remote and apply 110 volts (or 220[?] in the uk)........
