Apple TV 4K offers a "Home button" on its default remote control. Yet when programming a universal remote via Apple's menu system, no home button is created on the universal remote.

Is there any way to create this home button on an URC MX-350?

Home button allows user to skip pressing "exit" a dozen times to get back to the home screen and instead allows the user to press one button and be taken to the main home screen.

i'm not sure on an mx350, but on URC remotes compatible with CCP, you can go in and crank up the repeat rate of the menu IR code.  this simulates a press and hold of the menu button on the AppleTV remote, which takes you to the home menu.

if you can't adjust that repeat setting on the mx350, just try pressing and holding the menu button to go back home.

Pressing and holding the existing menu button on the MX-350 did not work.

However, I ran the Apple remote setup process on a 2nd universal remote and than set the MX-350 into learn mode assigning it a new button called HOME. On the 2nd universal remote I "pressed-and-held" the menu button while teaching it to the MX-350 (that is, instead of just pressing "menu" I pressed-and-held "menu" while learning).

This worked! The MX-350 now has a Home button.

Thanks so much for your post, Duct Tape.

I was able to generate the IR code for the AppleTV 4 Home key. Here it is in Global Caché format (that I have tested) as well as in HEX format (not tested)

sendir,1:1,2,38109,10,1,8,22,22,64,22,64,22,64,22,64,22,22,22,64,22,64,22,22,22,22,22,22,22,22,22,22,22,22,22,22,22,22,21,65,5,3800

0000 006C 0000 0012 0008 0016 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0016 0016 0040 0016 0040 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0016 0015 0041 0005 0ED8

As indicated by Duck Tape the trick was to edit the MENU button code to repeat it 10 times (the 10 value after the 38109 value in the global caché format) to simulate a long press

Has anyone tested this IR code with Apple TV 4K (ATV 4K) with the new iOS 13 home menu behaviors?

If you double press or long press the home button you created does it bring up the multi tasking screen or the side menu with the sleep button? It probably doesn't just curious. Thanks

Apple could easily recreate those functions as part of the learning remote functions but chooses not to.

Hi autocascading,

Question for you - I tested the thread above with the HEX code posted on a MX780 remote but it didn't work. Were you ever able to get it working as a HOME key HEX code?

I set up the Streaming Media Player 917 code set, and then taught the AppleTV4 to know those codes using the ATV setup screens. It doesn't cover the siri remote button or the home button in that setup, so I went searching for the home button at least when I found this thread.

To work around and create a home button, I basically used the "streaming media player.917.menu" command and set the key I assigned it to for a 10 repeat IR code. But that seems to only replicate the "short press" of the home button, not a long press to pull up that new side menu.

Thought I would share my test results and wondering if anyone found a solution to this one?

I've been searching for the solution for programming the Home key and found nothing.

Hard to believe there isn't a known hex code that works.

I too, have been searching for the home button code for URC remotes.
I’ve been having issues with apps freezing, and double clicking the home button brings up the multitasking page where you can then swipe close the apps like on iPhone or iPad.
Without it, the only fix is to reboot the appletv completely.

I know this is not directly related to this thread, and Ive already created a new thread today for this need.....though plz respond if you have any input on this topic;
I'm in dire need of "swipe down" IR hex code being generated by Gen 4 Siri remote for Apple TV Gen 4. From what I can see, this Apple Siri remote has an IR emitter on it, but it does not send any IR commands at all. Thus it all must be via RF on gen 4.
Can someone assist me in getting this command and/or IR Hex code.
My clients are pissed at Apple for not providing anyway to learn this, or create the swipe down command.
Swipe down is required to setup closed captioning in many viewing apps.

Hi RC (LM),
Great detailed reply, though not helping....me....here's why;
When I mentioned that other 3rd party apps running on APTV4 required a "swipe-down" to enter the "closed caption" (cc) selection screen - that's what I was focusing on. While watching APTV movies, you are very correct - a double-hit of "Up" or in some cases "Down" command does get the user into the cc screen.
Though for some 3rd party apps, the "swipe-down" command is the ONLY method to enter cc selection window.

As you know, the APTV Siri remote is communicating w/ APTV via Bluetooth. Though you may not know, that the Siri remote pairing w/ APTV4 is only good for about 1 minute of use, and the remote battery's die-out after about 10 button pushes. Also that Siri remote can only communicate w/ APTV within about a 10' operating range.
THUS - using the Siri remote for anything is the big issue.
Not having any method to tell the APTV to "swipe-down" other than using the Siri remote is my problem and my clients BIG problem.
In the past - I'd just find an IR code or convert an RF code to compatible IR Hex.
But Apple screwed-the-pooch on this one...sort of speak.

Any other suggestions for telling APTV to "swipe-down" via IR code?

Thank you
A hopeful But'non-Apple user.

I have a appletv siri remote in my home that I use on a daily basis and charge about 1x a month or less. I don't understand your statement saying the remote pairing is only good for one minute. I'm obviously within about 12 feet or so as the crow flies.

I have an IR file for the 4k AppleTV for Control4 and can extract those codes for you. I have NO ISSUES whatsoever with these codes. I have buttons for reboot, reset resolution, home, etc. I've never had a customer issue with any commands, much less the swipe down command. This will take me a few days to get the time to extract these hex if you can wait a few days I can get them to you.

If you want help yourself I suggest getting this remote from Channel Master, it works great on apple tv and it has a home key. Its IR only so no siri. But you can teach the HOME key to whatever universal remote you have. They go $25 new on amazon or open box directly from Channel Master for $16 on ebay:
