Been outta the biz for quite a while. Are there good solutions for replacing old my system? Or just keep using what I have?
Theater system: Denon AVR3808ci, latest Roku Ultra, Epson Home Cinema 8700UB pj
Still have my original files on an old Windows XP laptop!
Bedroom system: Denon AVR-2808ci, LG 55” year old unit, Roku Ultra, MX-850 & MRC-260

The MX-790 would be the direct replacement for the MX850. About the same price point and both used AA batteries.
You need to have access to the CCP software however. Not sure if you still have a login to URC or not, depending on how long "Been outta the biz for quite a while" means.

Quite a while means out of the biz since 2010ish…
I have actually been on these forums since like 2001ish
Made a good living designing/selling/installing systems.
My first ventures with URC were actually using MX-800’s and MRC-300’s?
Sold and programmed a bunch of um and then many more MX-850’s/mrc-350’s.
Worked well then, still work well, just old…

So.... do you have access to the software? Because that is what's going to determine if you can go with URC or not. If you can't get a login for the software, then you maybe either 1) Stuck using the MX850. 2) Looking at another brand.

#2 may still leave you in a pickle, since control manufacture have gone absolutely ape $hit with the anti-consumerism and locking down the software, so they control every aspect of the sale, service, and profit.

People are still waiting on this remote to pan out:

And then there's the Sofabaton remotes.

Ok, well, hopefully the old laptop still functions. And maybe(?) URC will allow code updates?

LMFAO!!!

I believe he is venting his frustration over what this industry has become over the decades. I can relate, as many of us here can I'm sure.

The Sofabaton X1 kit looms like it could work…
I agree about how the industry has changed. It is not a unique situation unfortunately.
I had evolved into custom integration from the car audio world and the same thing has happened in that industry

He just works for people so he doesn't get what real stress this industry creates for people that wear all the hats

I think he was talking about the other guy, since he quoted me mentioning them.

I doubt the MX-850 program will migrate to anything new, so you'll need to create a new one.

OTOH, if you find that it will, I have a more recent spare PC that has a serial port in case you want to avoid the BS that comes with using a serial-USB adapter.
My mechanic told me, "I couldn't repair your brakes, so I made your horn louder."

Have you tried to use a Sofabaton? Looks good, doesn't play nice and their tech support wasn't good when I called a couple of years ago. Their database was almost non-existent, too.
