I sold and programmed this remote in April of 2013. Should I be grateful that she got two and a half years out of it?

Maybe not. I had to go through a rigmarole with her remote about a year ago... when the same thing happened. This is the replacement remote, so she got a bit more than a year on each of two remotes. Plus the cost of four service calls on these remotes. The warranty is definitely up now and she's not going to want to try another one. Grrr.

So, are the Prolink.z any better? Should I just boot out all the nice new crap and get her a URC MX850?
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Stand alone remote or with a prolink.r?

If with proc. Then some kind of rf interference?

When was the last time the firmware was updated? I've had mine since they launched and not one real issue. I have had to do a reboot maybe 1-2 times a year, but early firmware updates fixed most of that.

That's odd. Out of the couple dozen I have in the field, I have replaced only one first gen R (no dock) due to the client using the wrong charger and thus breaking off the charging receptacle at the bottom of the remote.

And just how does one reliably download to that (850) dinosaur these days?

Cereal!

Actually, one still has a working USB to serial adaptor. One reliably uses that.

I tried that years ago when I still used an 850 and eventually just gave up (too many issues) and put it to rest :(

If the remote suddenly needs rebooting, it would seem to be a processor problem, IMO. Has it been dropped, maybe several times?

Maybe. She's a bit paranoid about dropping it, but sometimes that makes people clumsy. I see no external damage, but that is not conclusive.
