And the loser is...
Me, so far.

While I wait on snaps tech support to call back, I thought I'd see if anyone has had any issues with these units. I have a Cisco explorer 1642 set top box connected to a Sony LCD (model unknown) via binary b-500-ext-230-rs extenders. When using the extenders, the cable box shuts off the HDMI output due to non hdcp compliance (according to the on screen message). No issues when I run a 50' HDMI across the floor.

It's Friday, I'm tired, and I hit 40 hours sometime yesterday. Please, RC, kick start my brain for me.

Is this an issue of the box not supporting HDBaseT? Good read here from Heather...

Call me, I have some questions.

Why don't you just post those here so we can all have the same troubleshooting path? There was thread just two days ago regarding HDbT requiring clock stretching support but not all cable boxes do because they may only be using HDMI 1.2.

Have you tried putting a 1x2 HDMI splitter between the cable box and the sending extender?

Trilliumtech,

I just sent you an RC Mail with my mobile phone number.

As Lowhz points out, as soon as we hear cable boxes we suspect clock stretching:

Here is the thread he Lowhz is referring to:

Sorry for any troubles, please give me a call.

Just curious, if you run a cable box I to a receiver, then go HdBaseT out to the display, do you not have these problems?

Had this problem with Scientfic Atlanta boxes, Atlona HDBaseT extenders, and Samsung TVs. The cable boxes which ran through a receiver or matrix were fine. It was just the ones connected "directly" to the TVs which had the issue.

Read the clock stretching tech note above. Insert 1x2 HDMI splitter from your handy bag of "rescue" items. Go home happy.

So, as long as it goes through a splitter or receiver, it will be fine and not have the i2c problems?

Correct. HDCP is negotiated over I2c. The receiver is acting as the “splitter” in most cases. Remember, this problem does not present itself in all cable box installations, only those with older HDMI revs. Many cable companies recycle older cable boxes, and some are still buying new units with older HDMI revs.

The job I had an issue with last week was between the receiver and tv. The directv box worked over the HDBaseT extender direct to the Samsung f7100 series display. When going through a Yamaha RX-A830 it did not. Putting a 1x2 splitter between the receiver and tv worked fine.

It's totally weird, but again, reinforces the fact that if you install HDBT you should have a 1x2 splitter with you in your bag of tricks.
