I am using the High Def output from a RCA DTC-100 into an Audio Authority VGA to Component switcher into a Sony Grand Vega and on the High DEF channels the picture on the upper portion of the screen begins to jump around and is very shaky. The picture on the regular def channels are fine though there is a black bar that goes from bottom to top on the right side of the picture. I used the centering from the DTC-100 but I still have this problem.

I think this has to do with retrace timing. I installed a DTC-100 for a client who already had a Vega. The DTC-100's setup included a setting for use with the RCA VGA to Component adaptor, and we got rid of that problem when we set the DTC-100 correctly and adjusted the pot on the adaptor for the best picture.

We still had a problem: the picture proportions were never correct on the Vega's HD input. We changed to another brand of adaptor ON THE RCA REP'S ADVICE, and while we did not have the noise that you have, the proportions still are not right.

Does anybody have a solution for that? Thankfully the client bought the TV, DTC-100 and RCA device from The Good Guys, so it is ultimately not up to us to waste more time on it. We have already eaten about four hours on various days trying various things.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

I tried changing the retrace timing to each different option but with no luck. What do you mean by you used the settings in the DTC-100 to change it t use with a VGA to component adapter? what pot are you referring too?

The other unit that I have tried is a transcoder made by Key Digital Systems. My one fault with the 2 units that I had, it drove the output levels way too high, which is probably ok when using a single source since you can adjust for it, but did not work for me since the job had multiple sources through switchers. It would have been impossible to adjust relative differences.

Also, even though the RCA VHDC-300??? and the Audio Authority transcoders are supposedly the same, I have had situations where 1 worked and the other did not. The RCA version also gives you horizontal position pot and power LED. I think that the last of the 3 options on the DTC-100 is designed for the transcoder. It tells you in the description window to the right as you select each retrace timing.

There is a setting in the service menu on the Grand Wega (I'll have to ask our service manager which one) that adjust for the flagging problem. We actually had to talk to 3 different techs at Sony to get it figured out and the problem is that the setting is on the distorted portion of the screen so it's not the easiest adjustment to make.

The pot I mentioned is the one mentioned by tsvisser and it is on the RCA transcoder. The other one we tried was the Key Digital, and it gave us a beautiful picture, but the proportions were still not right.

My vote is for the Key Digital piece. Used it several times without a problem. Set the retrace timming to the second option and you are all done.

Well I was able to get into the service menu and change some settings and now the flagging problem is gone on the hd channels. I still do have the problem with the picture not completely filling in the screen with a small bar on the right hand side, anybody have any ideas?

You did try the raster centering on the DTC? If so what was the result?

I have had a problem with dtc 100 and Panasonic TV it seems that there are major issues with dtc working with sony and panasonic TV's. I reached out to many people to solve this problem. I used the key digital piece and it did not work. There are compatiable issues good luck!!!!! I lost time and money because of this problem. If you can solve it let me know.
