The Zektor thread should not be deleted, cleaned up perhaps, which is fine, but the thread itself serves a purpose and I honestly believe it deserves to stay.

edit: Sorry, just saw your new post in which you simply copied the original post from Jeff into yours. That is fine but I believe there was some discussion before the thread went bad that still perhaps deserves to stay if it can just be cleaned up. Please excuse my ignorance Whitevan, but what does WWOD stand for? I've seen it in other context but it wouldn't fit here.

If DrSheldonCooper is upset that a thread was an advertisement for Zektor, his approach was terribly unwise. This site has talked about that brand, and about how it solved HDMI problems, at least ten times more since his posts than we did before he started those bombastic bombardments!

I've seen a lot of trade magazines where supposed articles deal with situations solved by particular products. Usually these magazines label the entire page "Advertisement." The writing on those is so dry and boring, and it is so obviously either an ad or the writing of a pod person, that it's hard to be fooled.

However, the first post IS NOT an advertisement. If the person posting had not been someone from a manufacturer, we'd never think of it as an ad. If the person posting had not told us who he was, I'd be hopping mad at him duping us. That was pretty much my attitude about the guy with the cheap Chinese Crestron ripoff.

But Jeff identifies himself right away, discusses a real problem, has solutions that, yes, involve his product, but this is all out in the open and it really is a problem-solving situation.

Do we pillory Brent or Fred Harding when they refer to their product or "favorite supplier"? No. And we should not. They are honest and up front about who they are. They contribute in ways that are not advertisements. THAT is the kind of member we need here -- honest and helpful. That's how I see Jeff here.

And Shelly, Baby,* really, if you watched the show, you'd see that there's A LOT more fun on it than in anything you've posted.

Where in the rules here does it say you aren't allowed to be a jerk? My understanding is that you can stay within the boundaries of Daniels law and still be a horse's ass. from what little I read in the zektor thread, that seemed to be what the asexual man-child virgin managed to do. And if that was grounds for banning, Patrick wouldn't be allowed to be a member of any forum.

I could be way off, but I think it irked a lot of people when he displayed a high level of hypocrisy when he kept citing site rules, and then it was brought to the attention of everyone that he in fact had broken one of the site rules with the two accounts. He kind of seemed to snowball from there. Like I said, I could be way off base here though.

are you guys f%&##*G kidding me. i had zero idea of what was going on in the zektor thread as i hadnt read it. I saw this thread and did nothing but chuckle and shake my head and the childishness here. This is a *Professional" area of the forum and everyone is bickering back and fourth. I would expect this from some jr high forum about boys and girls (if they have such a thing) or maybe at AVS :) but here, of all places? COME ON.

If i was a newbi and stumbled upon this thread i would move onto the next forum site. This makes you guys sound like 13 year olds.

I have gained an incredible amount of knowledge from here, and you guys have bailed me out of alot of situations and problems with your help and many years of experience. I can only hope that ive helped others in ways that you guys helped me. Ive met alot of great people from here too and its truely been an honor.

Its sh!t like this that makes it so our industry isnt looked upon as a true trade. If you guys act like this here i can only imagine what you guys act like on a jobsite among the other trades. Lets hope im wrong about this.

What jeff did IMO is totally acceptable. I would have never questioned it, The DR. did and that spun off into a stupid thread making jeffs time basically worthless. I dont think DR. should be banned, i think he needs to think before he types but who knows what kind of knowledge he could bring to us. After breezing through the thread it needs to be cleaned up starting at the Dr's first post

What a grueling read the Zektor thread is.
I have to say that although not everyone agreed with what the guy said he didn't actually get abusive to anyone until he got abused himself. Therefore i think calling for banning him is a bit un-necessary, not that it really makes any difference now i guess.
