Just figured I'd update this post.

It happened again.  Prospective customer called in yesterday, wanted a very simple system installed so we went out yesterday.  (Customer suppplied equipment)

Equipment:
Comcast Cable
Sony PS3 for BluRay
Sony TV
Onkyo TXNR509

Hooked everything up.  Nada.

The Onkyo would/could not pass the HDMI signal.  We weren't using baluns, none of the HDMI cables were longer than 3M.  Everything was housed in an entertainment center.

Plug everything in directly to the TV and everything works no problem.  The OSD on the Onkyo shows up.  But it won't pass picture.

Unfortunately for this guy, (I didn't know until everything went south) He bought everything online through amazon.

As I stated before.....Onkyo has a serious problem right now.

I was sold on the the "superior manufacturing" of Integra products over Onkyo products by the Integra Rep, and sold it exclusively for 5 yrs or so. I found they where no better than and, perhaps even less reliable that the Onkyo branded products. To make matters worse, they were notoriously stingy with repair centers so the local shops stopped repairing them. Had to be sent to Onkyo service on the east or west coast to get repaired and too dang many needed repairs. Left a bad taste in my mouth. Stopped using any Onkyo brands for around 5 yrs then got suckered in by low price & bought 5 to use some on a commercial project and bought an extra for myself. This was in late 2010. It was nightmare.

Last week the local integra rep called me and asked if i was interested in taking on the line, I guess its nice to be wanted but I politely laughed at him. He was persistent in saying that integra is different blah blah blah.

Im just simply not interested in installing an overpriced onkyo

Of all the reasons you could have given, this is the one that you never should have mentioned. This is the wrong reason for not selling it.

Integra is a protected line, rare in the industry. It has some worthwhile CI features, and has a three year warranty. It's not perfect but has more going for it than most products out there.

Are you suggesting that this is a good reason to sell the line?

What, IP control and an extra HDMI over the comparable Onkyo?

HDMI issues, crappy sound and a pissed off customer come free of charge, with a truck roll! :)

All of the reasons you just mentioned are with Marantz! Installer features, protected line and a 3 year warranty.

At least his integra rep exists and isn't some imaginary being that no one has ever met. Lol

No... a real question.

Perhaps I should put it another way.

Would you choose to sell a line that was protected over a line that was better in some area (specs, reliability, etc), all other things being equal?
