Hey everyone, I'm designing a universal remote control but I need to get my hands on the IR command list for all IR appliances that exist today and find a way to maintain this list. Can I purchase this list somewhere? Once I buy it, where do I go to maintain it? Have IR commands become a single code for an entire brand or is it still based on model number?

Thanks, I appreciate anyone taking the time to help me out.

What's going to make your "universal remote" different than all of the others we have already?

All IR appliances? That's going to be a huge list.
Current remote companies mak their lists themselves by getting the codes direct from the manufactureer of the IR controlled devices and from certified dealers who leearn the codes and then submit them back to the emote company.

Also, what price range do you want your remote to be in? if it's going to be more than a couple hundred, then you will want more than just IR commands. You will also want RS-232 commands, Zigbee commands or Z-wave commands, and Network protocols for all the appliances out there.

Good luck Chuck.

You, just like the original poster will most likely have to contact the manufactureers to get their IR codes.

Or, perhaps, learn them from a Chunghop Universal.

I'm curious. How can YOU design a universal remote control when you don't even have the slightest clue about IR codes?

Thats funny but like he said you'll be better off contacting manufactors and getting IR codes directly from them.
