Subscribing to threads is on my to-do list, but not for a while. Something I could do fairly easily is "active messages for the last 24 hours", even perhaps "active messages since your last visit".
I currently have no plans to change to a commercial/freeware system. Absolutely everything on this site is completely original and I plan on keeping it that way.
