Never mind discrete IR, how about just IR? ;-)

This was all commented on when the PS3 first came out, but the ultimate irony is that even the original PSP had IR built-in. I believe they took it out of the slim, since they never ended up using it for anything, but what kind of logic dictates that the tiny PSP stuffed in kids' pockets should have IR, but the big heavy PS3 sitting across the room and under the TV in millions of living rooms playing BD movies... well, here's a perfect place we can save $0.20...
