"Discrete on" is easy, the difficulty is "discrete off". So, a combination variable and macro workaround was created and is handled completely by his circuit.
No, it's not a 100% foolproof solution, but it's absolutely as good as can be obtained from something that has no way of knowing what the ACTUAL power status of the PS3 is. However, most of the potential "out of sync" situations can be easily solved by sending the POWER ON code followed by the POWER OFF code.
Worse case the unit is left on - a better situation then it not coming on in the first place! :-)
